Can anyone tell me the name of the restaurant--sorry, have forgotten everything, including the location--in Tribeca that permitted artists to run a tab, the walls of which were covered in paintings accepted in lieu of payment? Thanks. — Melissa Pierson on Tribeca in the 1980s
Thanks Eric, very interesting cause I haven't been to NYC in years. Maria brought up something interesting about the scents of the area. When I would walk about at night I would smell a strong odor of what seemed like bubble gum. It came from the street(N Moore-?) behind the police station. I remember smelling the same scent in Long Island City near the Chicklet factory. — Yvonne babineaux on Tribeca Then and Now #1
Awesome !! — Ellinor Stigle on Tribeca Then and Now #1
Great pictures. I wish we could capture the scents from back then too! I remember areas of Tribeca smelling like spice, there were several big importers I think. — Maria on Tribeca Then and Now #1
@Liat: It's the same car. Sorry, I should've made that clear (I had come across the DNAinfo article and loaded it into this post before I saw the NYDN one). — Erik Torkells on In the News: Another Parking Garage Accident
This is great! It's so interesting to see how much (and how little) has changed. I think you did a great job duplicating the shots. Also, it's nice to see more trees now, rather than fewer. — Andrea on Tribeca Then and Now #1

Took an out of town friend to the Best Made pop up on Wednesday - he bought a beautifully crafted axe "to go." I hope no one was alarmed when they saw him walking the streets of Tribeca with it. Said friend and axe have since departed. — Kellee on Pop-Up: Best Made Company

@Paul: Heard back from Hearst PR. "We will be open to the public on certain Saturdays, with proceeds going to charity. The entire schedule is still TBD though." It won't be before January. — Erik Torkells on Loft Peeping: 250 West Showhouse #2
NE Corner of Washington & Vestry. We have a..... — Jim Smithers on Where in Tribeca…?
@Paul: The word is that Hearst had planned to make them public, but it's unclear whether that's still the case. If I hear anything, I'll be sure to pass it along.... — Erik Torkells on Loft Peeping: 250 West Showhouse #2
@paul: Fair question. I stopped thinking of it as an actual event (vs. an online peeping opportunity) when the party was canceled. I'd assume not, because I think the event was canceled in part because 250 West is right on the river. But I'll email the PR rep just in case.... — Erik Torkells on Loft Peeping: 250 West Showhouse #2
Is this open to the public? I pulled up the website and it's unclear. — paul on Loft Peeping: 250 West Showhouse #2
How cool that we have an axe manufacturer in Tribeca! Eric, I followed your blog from Turks and Caicos, but love it even more now that I live down here. We are so checking out this pop up! — Lynda Lippin on Pop-Up: Best Made Company
