Great idea. Could do that easily by eliminating the parking on both sides and leaving it for deliveries only... — Tribeca Citizen on Nosy Neighbor: Any news on the Chambers Street resurfacing project?
That stretch of Chambers is such a missed opportunity; imagine the addition of substantial street trees and planters (perhaps within a median), protected bike lanes, benches, etc., to turn what is currently a traffic sewer into a multi-modal pedestrian-friendly gateway into the TriBeCa area. There are already wide sidewalks and some lovely historic buildings along Chambers, but not surprised to see them remain decrepit/undeveloped (and much of the retail empty or underutilized) given the current auto-centric configuration and lack of greenery/texture. — Reader on Reade on Nosy Neighbor: Any news on the Chambers Street resurfacing project?
It’s beyond me why anyone is surprised or dismayed by what’s happening in the city. The woke progressive ideology is explicitly calling for defunding the police, getting soft on crime, and bringing more people (that we can’t take care of) illegally into this country (among other things). These are the same people that, at best, turned a blind eye ( and, at worst, cheered/encouraged as people looted and burned down businesses a few summers ago. You reap what you sow. I know so many people who’ve given up and moved to places/states that better align with their ideologies (my family included) because the woke voting base in NY will continue to run the state and city into the ground until there is nothing left. It’s sad to see but totally predictable. — WhyAreYouSurprised on Seen & Heard: Not the fun stuff
Does anyone know why all the scaffolding at Brookfield Place? It seems fairly permanent. — A2 on Work will start soon on PS 234
So - I am confused. I finally got round to reporting the hip-height low walled area outside Pain Quotidian this week that is nothing but a rat trap with dead plants. It was very quickly inspected by DOT and they have closed the request stating "The DOT inspected the condition and determined that it is in compliance with its standards" — Joe S on The city is targeting unused dining sheds for removal
Interested to purchase a small section of sheetrock with a caricature of sentimental value. Do you have contact information for the landlord? — paul on The Palm Tribeca has closed
The incidents you reported were all committed by mentally ill people who are homelesss. And you want to connect that with bail reform? Such foolish thinking - and fear-mongering - is the cause of these problems, not the solution. — Rick on Seen & Heard: Not the fun stuff
I walked all around where the Bulldog was supposed to be (by the carousel) on Sunday, but couldn’t find it. Has the Parks Dept removed it already?? — Hank on In the News: Another monument in The Battery…
Any idea when we’ll be able to walk on the south side of Worth btwn. Broadway and Lafayette? Super annoying there’s no construction lane for pedestrians (or bikes). — MS on Nosy Neighbor: Any news on the Chambers Street resurfacing project?

The Palm has been owned by Landry’s (who also owns Morton’s) since 2020. I was told the landlord wouldn’t budge on rent which forced them out. — JM on The Palm Tribeca has closed
Good luck with this. I live across from Brooklyn Tech which was in a similar situation. Scaffolding up for years before a project was finally funded to do the repairs. Now it is 4 years later, the project schedule has slipped by more than the original timeline (it was originally scheduled to be done in 2 years and now we are told that it will be another 3 years from today). They have spent close to the budgeted $30m so the money is gone so who knows if it is ever going to happen. Not clear who is in control of the school construction authority but it seems to be the contractors who donate heavily and then bleed budgets dry. — Scaffold on Work will start soon on PS 234
Complain to 311 every day. You can do it online. "noise from construction" https://portal.311.nyc.gov/article/?kanumber=KA-01091 — james on The Bean will be finished before the end of the year
I doubt it will ever be finished. The noise is just relentless it never stops. Morning to night. So unfair and arrogant towards the residents who live in proximity to it. Oh and when does the graffiti start? — Joanne Greenbaum on The Bean will be finished before the end of the year
Please make the noise stop already it’s November 2022 no signs them finishing this damn thing. It’s unkind to those of us living here it’s relentless I’m so over it and him ( kapoor) — Joanne Greenbaum on Is the Bean close to ready??
It's insane that scaffolding can stay up so long here. I've never seen so much scaffolding in any other city. What can be done? — Marcus on Work will start soon on PS 234
Scaffolding is a blight on this city and completely unnecessary. No other city had scaffolding laws like New York. NYC politicians are being paid off by the scaffolding companies and they laws exist to create unneeded union construction jobs. How do we get this to end? — FiDiGuy on Work will start soon on PS 234
S, Absolutely nothing! — neighbor on Seen & Heard: Not the fun stuff
vote for Kathy, just look at this wonderful " SAFE" city we live in where quality of life is an issue. Where you have to fear going on the train or walking alone at night. Where every pharmacy has to lock up becasue of stealing! Where criminals have more rights that the citizens who live here! Vote for Kathy, she turns her heard and allows criminals get out of jail for free!! Oh, we forgot about the migrants who are more important than our own American homeless on the streets! I am done with what has happened to this city past couple of years!! Enough! — neighbor on Seen & Heard: Not the fun stuff
I agree with Bc. This crime is obviously horrible (and apparently the suspect is being held without bail), but to base one’s vote for Governor of NY (or anywhere else) on this is not sensible. It plays into the “talking points” and slogans that have replaced true communication these days. Instead of examining underlying facts, complex causes and effects of policies and practices, upsides and downsides of proposed changes and so on, folks just bark out a label like “soft on crime,” “defund the police,” the “big steal,” that appeals to emotions, which then get magnified with conspiracy theories (think Sandy Hook, Dems are pedophiles, Covid vaccine not tested, Fauci created Covid, the election was stolen) that up the emotional ante even more until conversation and dialogue are impossible. Governors do lots of things but they don’t run the NYPD. Let’s try to base our voting decisions on the candidates’ platforms and proposals rather than overly simplistic buzz words. — SW on Woman sexually assaulted and robbed at Pier 45

Yes, this is the message I've gotten from police with whom I have discussed this mess (and other instances of increased criminality in the city). They say nothing will change until the government changes. I had high hopes for Adams, but so far, if anything, under his mayorship matters have gotten worse. I don't know if that's his fault or he is just being blocked, but the end result is the same: "urban decay", as it was once called. — Marcus on Canal Street counterfeit operation just goes on and on
I have a storage bin at the Manhattan MiniStorage facility at Varick and Spring. Whenever I'm there I always see more than a few people loading up rolling carts with what certainly looks like goods they intend to sell on the street. Perhaps the police could intercept them there and confiscate the counterfeit goods before they even get to Canal and Broadway. — Makes You Go Hmmmm.... on Canal Street counterfeit operation just goes on and on
let's be honest, Tribeca, West Village, FIDI have seen major upticks in crime under soft criminal justice reforms democratic progressives have championed. There are more mentally ill homeless people floating around, Woman was recently raped in Hudson Park, saw a homeless man a few weeks ago openly masturbating across the street from PS 234. several examples of criminal behavior on this thread. I'm confused Why do we want the people responsible for doing absolutely nothing but encouraging the deterioration of this city and the quality of life in this neighborhood to be elected? please spare me the it was worse in the 70's BS.This is now, What is it exactly that current democratic "leadership" actually bring to the table that makes it so enticing? — S on Seen & Heard: Not the fun stuff
