I have been a few times to this restaurant and it always seems odd. For some reason they don't want to give you salt and pepper when you order food in the dining room. (have customers stolen all of the salt shakers/pepper mills?) My waiter last time (after asking twice for salt and pepper) held his hands up and said "I'm not normally a server. I'm a barista" — JulieW on Chanson Le Salon will soon be Le Salon, a cocktail bar
I still think the solution for outdoor dining is to widen the sidewalks (as they originally were in NYC), and put the outdoor dining right up next to the restaurant. That way, the pedestrian sidewalk is not cutting between the restaurant and its outdoor dining area, and restaurant service is not interfering with pedestrian flow. So, basically typical European-style cafe seating. Where possible, these seating areas can have an extendable awning attached to the building, to shield from the elements. This way, no need for the sheds at all, and pedestrian space and flow is unaffected. Of course, it still means reducing parking space or a lane of traffic, but again, this is widening sidewalks to more like how they were originally in NYC. If the goal is prioritize pedestrians over cars anyway, then this is actually a positive development to incentivize walking and public transit over private vehicles, along with the congestion pricing etc. — Marcus on Chanson Le Salon will soon be Le Salon, a cocktail bar

They should do the right thing and stop occupying the street with terrace. Removing the pandemic era symbol of cascading fake flowers would make it a lot more respectable than changing faux French names. — R. on Chanson Le Salon will soon be Le Salon, a cocktail bar

Maybe you're forgetting that judges are required by law to set the least least restrictive conditions possible which often means ridiculously low bail or something useless like "supervised release". — Rob on Trash fires and explosions awaken Fidi residents

Chanson has great lunch/brunch and pastries. Never felt like a place to go for dinner, but definitely excited to check out the cocktails. The curbside structure on Harrison was likely removed because it was just unpleasant. The restaurant’s kitchen vent blows constantly onto that area. — person on Chanson Le Salon will soon be Le Salon, a cocktail bar
Based on the reformed bail statute, arson is a qualifying felony offense allowing the judge to place the defendant in custody (or set bail). That's not even including other qualifications the defendant himself might trigger (on probation already, etc) for bail to be set. Lotsa disinformation out there. Please be careful folks. — j frank p on Trash fires and explosions awaken Fidi residents
I have been there a few times and every dog I have seen was positioned next to their owner(s) and not touching adjacent diners. If one should bother you with a bit of crumb-hunting, nothing wrong with saying “excuse me, would you mind keeping you dog at your table please?” I like seeing the dogs, a) because I happen to like dogs and b) because I tend to assume that they are locals who walked over (and I like that it’s not just tourists enjoying the place. 1. Parking placards are non-cash (for employer), untaxed (for employee) compensation to City workers. City-as-employer colludes with City employees not to disturb this scheme. Never ever going to happen. 2. Yes. See #1. 3. Yes. You will pay a lesser toll to come in than to drive off the highway and make more congestion. 4. People cannot even agree on congestion tolls into the CBD as proposed now. Expanding it further is less important at first and more contentious. 5. How many of those non-NY plate cars is owned by a rent-stabilized tenant falsely claiming NYC as primary residence? Cannot price street parking fairly before the congestion toll is implemented. 6. Boo hoo for you. Congestion pricing is a charge for anyone who drives a car on the roads in the CBD, not an income tax. Good news, thanks for the update. This is at least a start?
