NYPost also reported that apartments at 450 Washington (Truffles Tribeca) will be hitting the market in the fall. Priced from $1-10M, which sounds like a steal in that location. ($10M barely gets you in the door across the street at 70 Vestry.) Either the apartments will be tiny or Related is seriously cheaping out on construction. Either way, it's disappointing and somewhat curious that they didn't go full ground up in such a prominent location. They could've built something spectacular instead of this hodgepodge fixer upper. https://nypost.com/2022/06/23/related-ups-celeb-friendly-condo-offerings-in-tribeca/ — person on In the News: 55 Broad will convert to residential
Read on in James' link: Duane Street Park "was the first park purchased by the city specifically for that purpose." And safe to say that what is now known as City Hall Park was not a park as we know it: "City Hall Park was a public commons... that was used for executions and the burial of paupers and slaves." And from the Friends of Duane Park's history page: "Duane Park is the second oldest public park in New York City (trailing Bowling Green). It was set aside as public land by the city government of 1797, which bought it from the vestry of Trinity Church (Wall St.)." — Tribeca Citizen on Seen & Heard: Birthday party for Duane Park
This is a great addition to the neighborhood. I love Zuckers. Wishing them all the best with this new venture. — JSMiller on New Kid on the Block: ZEATZ
Thanks Jane and James! — Don on Seen & Heard: Birthday party for Duane Park
There is a first for Duane Park. The website that James provides says: "Duane Street Park, at Duane and Hudson Streets, was also acquired in 1797. Trinity Church sold the triangle of land to the city for five dollars, on the condition that it be fenced and landscaped 'as promotive of health and recreation.' It was the first park purchased by the city specifically for that purpose." — jane on Seen & Heard: Birthday party for Duane Park
I HATE that dumb bean. It has caused so much noise pollution with the sanding. It is not worth it. It is literally just bean-shaped - how is this creative? — kd on Is the Bean close to ready??
And improvements to Battery Park are older. See "The Oldest Parks : Online Historic Tour : NYC Parks“ https://www.nycgovparks.org/about/history/timeline/oldest-parks — James on Seen & Heard: Birthday party for Duane Park

Should be interesting. I do hope the staff here is nicer/friendlier than the folks in the store. Low bar but I’m not holding my breath. — Ben on New Kid on the Block: ZEATZ

A left-wing state lawmaker who has pushed for cutting police funding first moved to the district she is seeking to represent in Congress because “safety issues” near “the projects” in Harlem prompted her to shack up with her tech bro then-fiancé in the Financial District, The Post has learned. Assemblywoman Yuh-Line Niou (D-Lower Manhattan) told a local publication in 2016 — when she was campaigning to initially get elected to her current seat — that she headed to the wealthier Manhattan neighborhood because she witnessed a pair of disturbing crimes and fell victim to one. https://nypost.com/2022/06/21/yuh-line-niou-house-wannabe-who-preaches-cop-defund-fled-from-harlem/ — James on An update on the race for the 10th Congressional District

I was in Paris two weeks ago and went to the one there. It was just okay. The steaks were good, but not special. I will say their mashed potatoes and frites are quite good. I can think of a dozen other steakhouses that I'd rather go to in the city. — Donna on More details on Beef Bar, coming to the Nobu space

Hi, I have been to Peruvian restaurant Panca which is relatively close and the food was excellent. It is to the North of Tribeca, but close by - West Village on 7th ave just south of Christopher street/ Grove.. Steak was delicious :) — Rohin on Peruvian restaurant coming to Chambers and Church
DeBlasio is NOT a friend to lower Manhattan. His Soho Noho Upzoning scheme that he pushed through in his final days as mayor was a give away to his real estate cronies - disregarding the historic district preservation of the neighborhood. And it was disguised as a boost to low income housing - a sham. And this scheme designated Chinatown as ‘Soho East’… how’s that for dirtespect. — Pam on An update on the race for the 10th Congressional District

I think the new restaurants are wonderful. Casa Carmen, Fonda and Chela are all great. Great food, great atmosphere, and all with a different spin on Mexican cuisine. I love that they are here. — A2 on Seen & Heard: New office for our councilmember
On Liz Holtzman: I’m reading a new history of Watergate, and the author notes that her defeat of then-Judiciary Committee chairman Emmanuel Cellar in the 1972 Democratic primary had an underrated impact on how the scandal played out. If Cellar had remained chair, the House’s impeachment process would have played out very differently. — Don on An update on the race for the 10th Congressional District
I went there once in the 90’s for a wedding….a friend of mine was marrying a young man who was in the coast guard. It was odd. Not the wedding, but the venue! Can’t wait to check this out.
