Just an update. We had a meeting at the Quality of Life committee at CB#1 this week to discuss the cobblestones again and how since shortly after 2009, the damages began and were never repaired. A reporter from the Post is working on a story. The DDC was at the meeting and heard how people have fallen and even worse as a result of the stones condition. I believe we may be making some progress. This is really completely irresponsible of NY City. I am earnestly working with the city, etc. to get somewhere once and for all. Too much time has passed. And it's been impossible. Will keep you updated here. — diane Lapson on Eyesore of the Week: Greenwich Street cobbles
Allan, can't you do better than drive-by, petulant (IMO) hearsay? Jerry has an excellent track record of delivering for NYC that has only gotten stronger over time. As for radical left: On Oct 1, 2018 (I remember the date b/c it was my birthday) Nadler's name brought me to a fundraiser on W 13 St for insurgent Dem Andy Kim, who was gamely challenging incumbent Republican Tom MacArthur in NJ's 3rd Congressional District. Jerry tore off the roof, convincing the packed house of the importance of Andy's race. I ended up doorknocking there (Tom's River country) a bunch of times. Andy won in a squeaker and gamely held his seat in 2020, helping enable the Dems to maintain a majority so they can pass infra-rebuild bills, investigate Jan 6 AND DELIVER $$ FOR NYers LIKE US. Just 'cause Jerry Nadler's as old as us doesn't mean his time is up. I'm glad to be rep'd by him. — Komanoff on Seen & Heard: Hello! Vietpho is open
I was a tenant in that building for 21 years. I was the first tenant that wasn't either a sweatshop or in the textile remnant business. I owned a photo lab and occupied 3 floors and brought in other creative tenants. KM Camera occupied both store fronts and when the landlord sold the building without any warning, she really hurt the tenants. The new landlord was terrible too all the tenants and wanted them out as soon as their leases ended. This is understandable except that the previous owner had lied to all the tenants and promised she was not selling the building and made us believe she was being nice by not raising our rents during the recession. She said that she would hold off the new leases until she could increase the rent claiming she was trying to save on the legal fees of making new leases. When she sold the building, most tenants were without new leases but had been tenants for many years. It was incredibly heartless . A building filled with artists replaced by a wealthy social club. Hard to feel sympathetic. I was wondering what happened to the original buyer, I hope he also went bankrupt! — Beth Schiffer on Highcourt is no longer on the table for Broadway
Those signs were everywhere! So bizarre... — C on Seen & Heard: Parm will reopen tomorrow
Jerry Nadler is way past his expiration date. He only cares about radical left politics and doesn't give a damn about his constituents. I recently spoke to someone in his office and asked what Jerry has done lately for his district - no answer! Good luck to Brian Robinson! — Allan Tannenbaum on Seen & Heard: Hello! Vietpho is open
Excited for this.. Though as pointed out in previous threads/articles, that's a big space and has to be mighty expensive. Wishing them luck, they're gonna need it in the post pandemic/endemic world with more and more people working from home (and not in FiDi) — B.Thompson on Burger Village coming to former Schnipper’s space
Nice to see a Vietnamese option in the neighborhood. Are any politicians in the neighborhood ever? I have met Chris Marte several times, but generally, everyone is uninvolved unless something urgent arises and neighbors must initiate action. — cami on Seen & Heard: Hello! Vietpho is open
I uploaded a picture today. They should be moving forward, and there's now paper over the windows... — Tribeca Citizen on Seen & Heard: Hello! Vietpho is open
And don't forget they drove the car over the stage and into the Hudson River. — Steve Poppe on The punk history of 84 Thomas
Anything new with Il Mulino on Greenwich? The door has a sign that says renovations are underway that's been there for months. Lights are occasionally on, but I haven't seen a ton of action. Also, there was an article in Road & Track about cameras that track and ticket vehicles for excessive noise being piloted in NYC: https://www.roadandtrack.com/news/a39105913/new-york-automated-sound-tickets/ I'm sure the neighborhood would strongly support this type of thing here with the amount of honking around the tunnel/Canal and racing on the WSH. It'd be great if we could support it somehow. — person on Catching up with some bar/restaurant news
I disagree. Pre-covid Schnipper’s was busy especially during lunch. Also, I remember from a previous article that Schnipper’s closed because the landlord wouldn’t extend their lease. — My Opinion on Burger Village coming to former Schnipper’s space
I am so happy to hear Manhatta is coming back. I love it there! Any word on the progress of the former Augustine space? — A2 on Seen & Heard: Hello! Vietpho is open
Schnippers could not make it as there was not enough Customers walking the street. Anyone opening a Restaurant Business there today should be given a medal along with express License approvals. Business conditions in this area are extra hard. Proof is all the closed Restaurants and vacancies in lower Tribeca. — Perry Rothenberg on Burger Village coming to former Schnipper’s space
Donations? Isn’t the plaza city land? Tax dollars supported? — R. on Zucker’s will run the kiosk in Bogardus Plaza

I met Brian Robinson in the UWS. Smart guy. More grounded than most politicians. Good looking... I think we've had enough of Jerry. I haven't seen him in the neighborhood ever. He speaks about defunding the police in the Westside Rag and I'm sorry, but that's not working out too well. — Lauren Silver on Seen & Heard: Hello! Vietpho is open
I filed complaints with FDNY about the danger posed by Tiny, and they were dismissed. The restaurant in addition to all the complaints listed above has only one means of egress from the prep kitchen in the basement. I pointed out to the FDNY but they decided that is OK. If a fire breaks in the restaurant the workers in the basement will be trapped. The second means of egress is covered by the outside seating shed. Why NYC laws do not apply to this restaurant? — A neighbor on The fireplace at Tiny’s is still causing trouble
Keep in mind that it is there so the plaza can support itself and not lean exclusively on donations. — Tribeca Citizen on Zucker’s will run the kiosk in Bogardus Plaza
Good news about Manhatta--my favorite bar/restaurant in FiDi. Hope they retain the counter seats overlooking the kitchen. — Jon on Seen & Heard: Hello! Vietpho is open
So…adding an eyesore of a metal kiosk in a wonderful open square that took years of construction is the solution? There are already plenty of choices for coffee and food in the neighborhood. Why adding an ugly kiosk in a city that is already lacking open space? Totally useless and frankly ugly. I’ll be curious to see the amount of garbage left every day…. — Wait… what? on Zucker’s will run the kiosk in Bogardus Plaza
Manhatta recently had a hiring post up with team training I believe in February and a “spring” reopening. They had posted to hire last year at one point as well, but the website update gives me hope it’s happening this time! — Kristin on Seen & Heard: Hello! Vietpho is open
OOooOoo, Love this!! In the mornings I'm out with my dog. This gives more options for good coffee and breakfast offerings (and lunch options for our afternoon walks!!). I also like the location, allowing for more space/lines (The sidewalk for Jack's can get a little crowded and the scaffolding around Zuckers eats up the entire sidewalk) — B.Thompson on Zucker’s will run the kiosk in Bogardus Plaza
