Come support the protest with a Block party today: 2-6pm. Please bring food, meet neighbors, enjoy the park and meet our 1st Precinct NYPD Captain and Community Affairs officers who are doing a book drive today at Rock Park. — urban cowgirl on There’s a tent city in Rockefeller Park
I live right across, and I’m an essential worker, but c’mon, some kid in the neighborhood s gonna fall in that flame and y’all gonna be in trouble. — Whywhywhy on State breaks ground on huge monument for Rockefeller Park lawn
A similar protest took place in Stockholm in 1971. People protected 13 Elm tress which the city council wanted to fell in order to create a new metro station. The city lost andthe tress are still there. You can read about it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elm_Conflict — Heide Fasnacht on There’s a tent city in Rockefeller Park

These specific trees are not overgrown. I have to laugh because that is such a ludicrous thing to say. — j. on There’s a tent city in Rockefeller Park
“City and State” has an excellent story on our pushback against Cuomo’s monument, with fine headline, “Battery Park City residents rebel against Cuomo’s planned memorial.” Fyi, "City and State" is targeted at political insiders. Politicians read it, as do journalists. Good story in NY Post https://nypost.com/2021/06/29/cuomo-slammed-for-taking-green-space-to-build-covid-memorial/?utm_campaign=iphone_nyp&utm_source=mail_app — A2 on There’s a tent city in Rockefeller Park
There's a perfect spot for the memorial: Belvedere Plaza. Add the plaques, the flame, whatever. It's already a paved grove of trees - (think of the savings!) with a better view of the SoL and way, way more foot traffic. — J Frank P on There’s a tent city in Rockefeller Park
Yes, thank you to all of you that have stepped forward on behalf of the neighborhood. Without you, the trees and the park would be ruined in that area. Let's hope this is more than temporary! — Elizabeth on There’s a tent city in Rockefeller Park
bravo to these families. AWESOME JOB. The more they do this, the worse the optics will be if they tear these trees down. GROSS that the Governor is lying (although hardly a surprise). — nyc on There’s a tent city in Rockefeller Park
I fully agree. And I have tried to get someone other than the two of us to agree... — Tribeca Citizen on Seen & Heard: Bluestone Lane opens next week
yes I was there yesterday. When is this happening? I will make sure we are there! — Native on Six trees coming down in Rockefeller Park — maybe today
Good luck to them but so wish they would remove the sidewalk shed. That is one of Tribeca's most beautiful buildings. — Carla on Seen & Heard: Bluestone Lane opens next week
Don’t be sad, join the fight to save it! They need people down at the park. Join them. Bring your family and friends. It is the only way to stop this. — A2 on Six trees coming down in Rockefeller Park — maybe today

From Congressman Nadler Tweet Rep. Nadler @RepJerryNadler · 18h New York’s essential workers deserve our honor and respect—and we can commemorate them with a memorial. But bulldozing vital open space in lower Manhattan isn’t the way to do it. @NYGovCuomo needs to #PauseTheSaws and consult with the community on location and design. — A2 on Six trees coming down in Rockefeller Park — maybe today
This was covered on NY1 this morning. It was followed by some snarky comments by the hosts about how nice the memorial is and how people can still move around the park and why are they objecting. I have written to them, mentioning that this will be next to some very noisy basketball courts which isn’t appropriate along with some of the other objections raised here and suggest you do the same. https://www.ny1.com/nyc/all-boroughs/coronavirus/2021/06/29/essential-workers-monument-frontline-workers-monument-battery-park-city-opposition https://www.ny1.com/nyc/all-boroughs/about-us/contact-us — Hudson River on State breaks ground on huge monument for Rockefeller Park lawn
to be clear, no one is against the monument. just asking cuomo for a dialogue with the community to gather input about the best location. — urban cowgirl on State breaks ground on huge monument for Rockefeller Park lawn
it is my understanding that the exact location -the open lawn where children play- was just released last wednesday. if it was in an area that wasnt taking away from sports and leisure activities, i don’t think it would be as much of an issue whether it was in the battery or not. — urban cowgirl on Six trees coming down in Rockefeller Park — maybe today
Thank you for responding, it’s most appreciated. Hopefully you continue to (collectively) put forward fair positions on either side of issues related to the monument for the public to consider - as true reporters should do. Be well! — Jen on State breaks ground on huge monument for Rockefeller Park lawn
I am an essential worker and live in the area. This news is devastating as this park has become a bit of a refuge for me and many other essential workers who need the space for our mental health. I have contacted the Governor and local legislators/officials via email. What else can we do? — j.k. on Six trees coming down in Rockefeller Park — maybe today
