JGV will have the seafood palace over in the Seaport and then the steak and meat kingdom here in Tribeca - "bookends" as my friend calls it. I am so grateful for the proliferation of galleries. It's fascinating to see the ever-changing exhibits, whether just walking by and seeing the works through windows, or dropping in for a closer week. Also, it's a real positive for the neighborhood, since as a result we have relatively few vacant storefronts, compared to some other streets and neighborhoods. If not for the galleries, what businesses would be taking these large expensive spaces? We would probably have a lot of vacant ground-floor commercial spaces. according to the this week's Off the Menu in the NYT, the interior shouldnt change much in the former Augustine space! "Daniel Boulud, who took over Augustine, the French restaurant that Keith McNally opened in the Beekman Hotel five years ago, said he didn’t plan to keep its name when he reopens it in the spring. But he does plan to retain much of the décor. “We’ll work with it; the charm will remain,” he said.
