  • Good point about sidewalk bridges. There is now a big set up on Murray and Church as well. — Tribeca Citizen on A homeless encampment on Franklin and frustrated neighbors

  • This is so very sad. It makes me so upset that the City cannot do more to provide the help these people need. There is also a homeless encampment in the Benson Place alley. I would add that scaffolding, in addition to being a nuisance in many ways, also creates opportunities for homeless encampments. Street scaffolding is not a housing solution for the homeless! These people need homes and professional health care. Maybe if the City put as much effort into housing homeless individuals as it did engulfing the entire city under sidewalk sheds this wouldn't be as big of a problem. — FiDiGuy on A homeless encampment on Franklin and frustrated neighbors

  • For those who have families and are renting: time to leave the city. At least for a year or two. We will not have 'normal' until a vaccine comes (if and when). With the level of unemployment, inequality and suffering that this crisis brought, the city won't be as friendly as before. And what about the approach of City government and the police? "We have tried talking to him to convince him to leave, but he doesn't listen. Hopefully one day". Families that are working from home: why pay NYC prices to be holed up in your small apt, when you can't go out (and there's nothing to go out to in the first place)? — Frank E. on A homeless encampment on Franklin and frustrated neighbors

  • Sad to hear. They had such a warm sign up during the shut down. I feel for all of these retailers. A good friend has a shoe line that was built online, but the pandemic also hindered and delayed production. So tough right now — PATRICK Valentino on Alumnae will close permanently this month

  • yes, a lot of invaders are restored by enthusiasts as just getting some tiles is rather easy. anyone in possession of a legit street piece, say one that was taken down within hours of invader putting it up, is still pretty worthless. real collectors will not buy them as they are so easily forged. invader does create one additional piece for each street, they are called "aliases" and come with an official certificate of authenticity. These are the pieces that now fetch between 20 and 500k at auction depending on the image and size. the most rabid buyers are in asia as invader continues to set personal auction records in hong kong. this audience would never buy a street stolen piece, they are worthless( and usually very hard to get down intact) — invaded on Weekend Distance Activity: Find the Space Invaders (or what’s left of them)

  • Yes! Of course. Just added. — Tribeca Citizen on Dudley’s Paw, Wagging Tail, Petco and now AKC Canine Retreat

  • I am a fan of space invader and take photos of these pieces whenever I see them. Today (7/15/20 around 2:30pm), I saw a woman and a man in their 20s, stealing the green one in the middle (between Worth and Hudson Street). I ask the woman why taking it out and she said because it's worth thousands of dollars. I told her I am a fan and they belong to the streets... and the man was filming me with his phone and the woman said "Well, I don't know how rich you are.... but you will be able to see this in a museum few years later". I had to walk away feeling sad.I hope these thieves learn to appreciate street arts someday. — JC on Weekend Distance Activity: Find the Space Invaders (or what’s left of them)
