I think the complaint about the un-broken wall of docks, was that once you park your bike you are forced to either walk in the street, or jay walk to cross to a side walk. It’s just a bad design. Wrong. Why discriminate against a 3 decade old local business if they are following CDC protocols? I know plenty of restaurant owners that have done nothing to enhance their HVAC systems at all. Dear Tribeca residents and families: Tribeca Citizen helped raise awareness by flagging this. However, please be aware of additional critical points beyond lost parking discussed with CB1 on 11/23 at its 6pm meeting (to no avail given cargo bike parking was installed 11/24 at 8am): 1)SAFETY - Warren Street has heavy pedestrian and school traffic from 2 elementary schools+community center+ball field. Also, personnel cannot load bikes without cutting across sidewalk traffice in perpendicular fashion with their heavy carts. The next few months are unlikely to fully demonstrate the danger given many families have left, but this is a serious issue. 2)THERE ARE SAFER STREET OPTIONS - Amazon/WF had 3 other street options, including Murray Street which has a formal loading dock where this can be executed properly and SAFELY (for pedestrians and personnel). An objective to reduce carbon emission is great, however onous is on the company (Amazon/WF) to do this without endangering pedestrians and personnel. 3)LACK OF DUE PROCESS - There is heavy opposition from Tribeca community residents, Downtown Community Center and staff/families of two elementary school (P.S. 234 and P.S. 89) to install the cargo bike parking on Warren Street given significant safety concerns on also already busy street, and yet Dept of Transportation claims no opposition was raised in their "survey." This is not possible, just check out the replay from the CB1 meeting on 11/23. There is zero evidence of any proper survey and the community and residents deserve to be treated fairly and have a true voice in the process. Pam, it is we who should be thanking you. I have always appreciated and lauded your efforts but this year, with everything topsy-turvey you have been one of the few constants. Can confirm where you’ve received this info and make sure it is specific and accurate. The latest Covid Nyc government by zip code map as Nov.26th reports zip code 1007 at 1.3% not 3 percent. If you go directly to the www1.nyc.gov you can see the accurate number. It’s dangerous and harmful to local businesses schools and the community at large to report something that is not accurate. The electric bikes and scooters are a big problem. All should have license plates and be registered so that there is some kind of accountably. The Hudson River bike path has turned into a dangerous road because of them. I have even encountered Revel scooters on this path that is not designated for motor powered vehicles of any type. There is no enforcement of this rule and these vehicles speed along this path as they feel they are entitled to do so and that there are no consequences for doing so. First precinct does nothing and the Hudson River park police are nowhere to be found. If I’m understanding this correctly, and I may not be, this area was previously used for delivery trucks and vans, and now it will be restricted to cargo bikes (and other bikes), and is also supposed to eliminate the use of the sidewalk for loading carts. Doesn’t sound so bad to me! And don’t forgot that those trucks and vans were so noisy, beeping when they backed up, which went on all day long. Keeping an open mind. And dare I say that I love the convenience of Amazon, and do not resent them just because they are making money! They have been an amazing resource, especially during the pandemic.
