Hey let's plug a multibillion dollar chain who cares sooo much about this neighborhood it closed down ALL its locations. Let's also tell people to go against social distancing by driving to another borough so they can get their nonessential Starbucks IV fix. So what if you can't have it for a few days/weeks/months? You'll live. You know Starbucks won't be hurting when they get a chunk of that coronavirus relief money and pay as little of it as possible to their workers until they announce otherwise. What a corporate shill you are. Done with your blog - DONE! — Support Local on How to get your coffee fix in the neighborhood

Barnes and noble doesn't care about it's employees. Never have Never will. You work there as a corporate toadie slinging overpriced shit. When did books get so fucking expensive? Not to mention a shitty membership program you have to pay for to get a discount. Money matters to this company, NOT PEOPLE. — Melissa on Barnes & Noble is closed temporarily
Absolutely heartbreaking. Although we no longer live in the neighborhood, I have so many fond memories of Andreas. I loved going to Gee Whiz with my young children and husband. He always greeted us with a big smile and made us feel so welcome, no matter how many high chairs we needed or how busy the diner was. It was a joy to practice my Greek with him and share my love of Crete. My deepest condolences to his family. He was a shining light. May his memory be eternal. — Christine on Andy Koutsoudakis Sr., owner of Tribeca’s Kitchen, dies from the coronavirus
A piece of Tribeca's heart is gone. Andy lived through all of it: the butter-and-egg merchants, the artists, the titans of finance. He was a constant. Always that smile, that graciousness, his pride of place. Big things: helping the neighborhood however he could, whenever he was asked. Little things: when he moved to Tribeca's Kitchen, he always put aside some taramasalata for me. It wasn't on the menu, but he knew how much I liked it. The community mourns Andy's passing. — Bruce Ehrmann on Andy Koutsoudakis Sr., owner of Tribeca’s Kitchen, dies from the coronavirus
Crushing news. My condolences to Andrea & family. Andy & Pete were my biggest clients @ GeeWhiz, delivering produce to them for 10 years until I moved to Florida. I had the privilege to know Andy from the days he was a Manager at Chelsea Gallery with Pete. I'll never forget him always calling me "kid"....I was in my 20's. He will be missed......what an awesome guy Andy was....tears going down my cheeks. Rest in peace Andy. — George Boutsikakis on Andy Koutsoudakis Sr., owner of Tribeca’s Kitchen, dies from the coronavirus

I work across the street from Tribeca's Kitchen, had lunch there twice a week. Andy was usually there, greeting us with a big hello. During Passover a few years ago, Andy saw that I ordered matzah instead of toast, and when we were leaving, he gave us kosher for Passover pastries that his friend made. If there is a Greek word for mensch, that was Andy. — Judy on Andy Koutsoudakis Sr., owner of Tribeca’s Kitchen, dies from the coronavirus
May he rest in peace. He was a true staple in the neighborhood I grew up above Gee Whiz and every time I went to eat he would always greet our family with a big smile. He will be missed. Such sad news. Andy was a wonderful person, always donating to school functions, Always sponsored local sports teams, and never said no to anything for the neighborhood. He was a genuine person, with a real heart. Always friendly and giving, a presence for years and so critical to what Tribeca was and is today. How sad to hear of this. Such a terrible loss. Our prayers of strength go out to his family. — valentina on Andy Koutsoudakis Sr., owner of Tribeca’s Kitchen, dies from the coronavirus
So so sad to hear of Andy's passing. I would look forward to my near daily after school visit, with my co-teacher, to Gee Whiz for tea. Andy would always tease us that "we had to keep our voice strong and healthy to teach the little ones!" and would rarely charge us for the two cups of tea. He'd leave the honey jar without a lid on the counter for us. It was little generous acts like this that really made him stand out as a comforting presence in the community. He will be greatly missed. My thoughts are with his family during this difficult time. — Rebecca on Andy Koutsoudakis Sr., owner of Tribeca’s Kitchen, dies from the coronavirus
