It seems to me as if there is no monitoring of how this is being implemented. Some restaurants are respectful of their neighbors while others have expanded way beyond what seems fair. The Odeon which already had outdoor seating has now taken over the space in front and on the side of their restaurant. It is very difficult to walk past the restaurant with all the people milling about on the sidewalk. They have also seized 5-6 public parking spots to put more tables. Will the city open up the no parking restrictions to accommodate those who have vehicles and cannot afford garage fees? What about deliveries, bike lanes and noise? Seems like a great opportunity to widen many sidewalks permanently, and even consider making more streets and areas pedestrian zones (perhaps with designated hours for delivery times). Many NYC sidewalks were once much wider, and were narrowed over the years. Maybe it's time to reverse that trend. Wider sidewalks would also allow easier social distancing when walking. Correct. The Laughing Man Street Seats are technically open to all and not (supposed to be) a private cafe. The roadway seating just approved is not a space open to all but is to be a private cafe. — James on The new look of al fresco in the city
