  • Hi, I saw your post about the Reading Ninja posters and stickers and wanted to say that the work this group does is so important. Our younger generation needs continued encouragement and support as they develop into strong, literate, contributing members of society. My family has used the book recommendations made by the Reading Ninja to help foster my daughter’s love of reading and consequently all of our literary muscles. As the Reading Ninja says -“Reading is rad!” — Freada Sylvester on Seen & Heard: Laughing Man 2.0 coming along

  • My son is at school otherwise I would have him chime in. I simply cannot wait though - I’m too eager to respond. The Reading Ninja is very much in fact a mother and son duo. They find the most creative ways to engage young people in reading. The merchandise is for the fans. And to subsidize the hours of work that goes into it. It’s hard to imagine that The Reading Ninja is just a very cool mother and son who live for books (if you know the backstory, it all started initially to pass on that love to her son in the first place) but it’s true. They’re cooler and more creative than anyone else I know and I feel so lucky that my sons and I get to be on the front lines learning from them and partaking in their creative pursuits. Also, it’s awesome that you’re taking the time to look into it. I hope it brings more awareness to The Reading Ninja and engages more kids in the rad community that they’re building. • That's a great idea that could be implemented with minimal infrastructure changes (an no traffic changes). Another great example of DOT's inability to really think when it comes to biking infrastructure. — DB on Dedicated bike lane coming for Broadway in Fidi

  • How much noise do the bikes make? Perhaps you should be advocating for less polluting (noise and air) modes of transportation if you want more quiet and better air? Also, numerous studies show that there is induced demand when referring to traffic. Something tells me that even if there were two lanes, you'd probably hear honking. In fact, I've often heard honking on roads with 2+ lanes! https://www.citylab.com/transportation/2018/09/citylab-university-induced-demand/569455/ — DB on Dedicated bike lane coming for Broadway in Fidi

  • North of the Brooklyn Bridge, the Lafayette St bike lane should be flipped with the parking lane and made protected to Spring Street and all of the Lafayette St bike lane turned into a two-way bike lane from Union Square to the Brooklyn Bridge (and linked with a protected lane on Park Row to the new lane on lower Broadway). — Gary on Dedicated bike lane coming for Broadway in Fidi

  • The bike lane around city hall has created complete gridlock having access to only one lane going straight for park row. Terrible idea to take away more travel lanes. It’ll just add to the sounds of horns in the early afternoon to late evenings. — Adam on Dedicated bike lane coming for Broadway in Fidi

  • I'll start getting excited about all the concessions to bike riders when they start obeying the rules of the road...yielding to pedestrians, stopping at red lights, maintaining a safe speed, etc. Many behave like they own the road. — Makes You Go "Hmm-m-m" on Dedicated bike lane coming for Broadway in Fidi

  • Thought of another half-baked CDOT design downtown: Going North on Centre from FiDi, they have a protected two-way bike lane that gets you to Brooklyn Bridge and then just.......stops. So if you want to continue going north on the bike lane on Centre, you have to either go off onto City Hall plaza and intermingle with pedestrians (always extremely crowded, especially during warm weather) or salmon one block to the Chambers / Centre intersection. Why would you not extend the two-way protected bike lane to attach to your other northern bound bike lane? It's either because DOT is gutless (placard abuse cars park there) or they are incompetent. Neither is a good look. — DB on Dedicated bike lane coming for Broadway in Fidi

  • Congestion pricing -- coming in early 2021 -- will cut the volume of cars and trucks using Canal and Broome Streets as a toll-free conduit from Long Island to NJ, by tolling the Williamsburg, Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges. (That is true even if two-way tolling of the Verrazano Bridge continues to be delayed.) This should free up more than enough road space in and around Hudson Square to make it simple to extend the Seventh Ave protected bike lane into and through SoHo and Tribeca. — Komanoff on Dedicated bike lane coming for Broadway in Fidi

  • S. is correct about hygiene and distinction between "Real service dogs" and "Emotional support animals." Hopefully I am correct and everyone reading this agrees . . . to say nothing about the necessity for vaccinations. Of course there's always an outlier somewhere, just hopefully not here. — Ben on Nosy Neighbor: Are dogs allowed in Liberty Park?

  • Do tell, what kind of t-shirts does Let There Be Neon sell? — TK on Seen & Heard: Richard Serra in Chelsea

  • Great news, but share the rant about gaps. Broadway should have a complete protected bike lane south of Union Square. Pathetic to not include NoHo, SoHo, Tribeca, etc. The amount of buses, trucks and cars make it a very intimidating stretch to bike, when it's a main thoroughfare for downtown. Where do they think these 1241 bicyclists are coming from? Half-baked measure, a classic CDOT move. — DB on Dedicated bike lane coming for Broadway in Fidi

  • With a little more feeling Anthony. — TG on Nosy Neighbor: Are dogs allowed in Liberty Park?

  • Real service dogs: YES. Emotional support animals: NO. Real service dogs (such as guide dogs for the blind) have been thoroughly trained, and you will never see one put its paws on the seat, or lick the bins at the grocery store, and you will never hear one bark. Another word for emotional support animal is “pet.” All pets provide emotional support, but that doesn’t mean they need to accompany you everywhere. A pet walks on the sidewalk, steps in shit, carries all kinds of germs on its paws. Then it puts its paws on the seat. Later you, or your small child, unknowingly sits in the residue. Afterward the child scratches his ass, or wipes his nose, and soon both of you are sick, and you don’t know how it happened. No, not rare instances. This is how disease gets spread. Leave the so-called support animals at home. The legislature needs to fix the laws to require proper licenses, protect the general public, and keep these frauds out. — S. on Nosy Neighbor: Are dogs allowed in Liberty Park?

  • I go to the Amazon Go in Brookfield Place sometimes. There are usually 1-2 people at the front of the store just monitoring in case there are issues. The store is always empty and it’s so amazing to just walk in, grab what we need, and walk out!!! No lines, no crowds, etc. Probably bc it’s in a terrible location that no one can find HAHAHAHA — Carolyn on Seen & Heard: Free benefit concert at City Vineyard

  • I think real service dogs don’t actually require any certificate or labeling. The laws need to change...pretty much any dog can be a service dog, it’s kind of crazy. — Carolyn on Nosy Neighbor: Are dogs allowed in Liberty Park?

  • I would have punched the newspaper-wielding woman in the face or at least started filming her for YouTube. So sick of these private citizens who think they have the authority to do things like this. I had a runner tell me to get out of the way bc my dog was walking in front of her. I told her to go f*ck off and run on a treadmill. In all seriousness, I think the problem is “fake service dogs”. I’m pretty sure true service dogs are trained not to lick food and stuff and grocery stores. Also, why is Battery Park/Tribeca so strict about no dogs on grass???
