Good afternoon. When my family moved from SoHo to Independence Plaza in 1975 I was nine years old, lol and as I’m sitting here writing I can picture in my mind what the Westside Highway looked like back then. In fact my father drove a tractor trailer and he would have to drop off the container and pick one up. A guy stood in a small yellow school bus and he had a German shepherd guard dog. All the way at the end of the pier it was falling into the Hudson River. How many people remember The Market Dinner? I will never forget sitting on my grandfather’s balcony watching the ships during the 1976 Bicentennial celebrations. It was absolutely amazing especially to a nine year old girl. All the different ships in the River and the waster that was spraying were Red White & Blue and the Fireworks were so Amazing. I don’t think that we need a Cannabis shop in our neighborhood. When Larry Gluck bought Independence Plaza we lost our Mom and Pop stores. How many remember our Pedro’s Deli, or Chung Lee family pharmacist or the Dry Cleaners, nail salon, and the pizza shop. Why would they raise their rents so high that they ended up leaving. Why would they want a vacant stores. Whoever or whatever stores open up will not be there for long because of the rents. Was really excited for this opening in the neighborhood but unfortunately it was the worst manicure I've received. It also seems like a previous negative comment about the salon was deleted from the TC post about this place, which is unfortunate, because residents of the neighborhood should be able to know what kind of place it is. FYI JUMBO-sized rats jumping from the Meadow Lane trash piles and overflowing/unclosed trash containers on Harrison St to the underside of the Terrior outside seating platforms. Our new mayor is a responsible person and he’s got absolutely no control over releasing violent criminals. This is irresponsible fear mongering. We do have a significant problem with affordable housing for the working people of our city and, btw, as a country that leads the world in incarceration diversion programs for nonviolent offenders who have mental health, substance abuse or who were victims of human trafficking is just fine and part of that is housing. Probably not going to be in a small hotel that’s in a very high priced real estate market that can be repurposed quickly for a commercial use.
