I am really disappointed by the toxic negativity seen in comments here recently. Why does it make you feel good to sit in your comfortable Tribeca home and cast stones on everyone else? Why does it bother you that some people need dog grooming, as so logically pointed out by TheBlackSquirrel? I would agree that it's already pretty gray as to what is essential - are wine and liquor stores truly essential? I wish everyone would stop judging, stop being nasty and negative and start being more supportive of their neighbors. Over the past 6 weeks I have cut my own hair twice, my husband's hair twice, and even my mother (who has been living with us during Covid). We walk our own dogs, clean our home, etc. However, we have two Cairn terriers with complicated double coats and they have to be groomed regularly for health reasons. Their long hair gets matted/knotted, it makes it complicated for them to poop, and obstructs their vision. I have spent hours online researching our options for self-grooming - read product reviews, watched videos, and read many warnings. Net/Net, we decided NOT to attempt this ourselves - lacking the skills and proper equipment to ensure that we did not cause our animals pain and possibly damage. It is NOT like cutting human hair - ignoring the obvious anatomical differences, human beings understand the importance of staying still when being cut. Dogs do not. Professional groomers have special tables, with poles, leash holders etc that limit the dogs movement. My dogs do NOT by nature ever sit still (unless they are sleeping). I for one, on behalf of my dogs, very happy that Pupculture is reopening and have already scheduled appointments for mid-May, the same day that our elderly dog has to get his blood tested at Tribeca/Soho Animal hospital for prescription adjustments. Both are curbside drop-off and pick-up and I only have to be out and about one day and we will be driving the dogs to both locations and wearing masks. The semantics of the word "essential" is relative. I personally don't consider restaurants essential to me needs - I have cooked every single meal for the past 6 weeks - never relying on a restaurant. But, there are people who dont have access to kitchens, supplies etc and for them restaurants are essential. I do not have the skills, training, equipment to groom our dogs. When challenging times arise people show their true colors and Jones and Kings Pharmacy has proven to be a true caregiver of the community. I candidly have not shopped at Kings very much and have never met Jones but that didn't matter to him. When I needed to order an oxygen monitor for my mother Jones let me know he didn't have any in stock but would call me when they arrived. Within two hours of my speaking to Jones he called me back to let me know that the monitors had come in. My mother lives uptown so he FedExed it to my mother so I would not need to go to the post office. He didn't charge me anything extra for the FedEx and just simply passed the cost onto me. If that wasn't enough, when my mother had trouble using the monitor Jones made a trip to my mother's house to show her how to use the monitor. I was stunned that Jones took the time to meet my mother in the lobby of her apartment to insure she could use her monitor, knowing it was important for her health. I am indebted to Jones and suggest that if you live in and around Tribeca you please shop at his pharmacy so we can keep him in business. Kings is a pillar of our community with an owner who truly cares about it. Cuomo and DeBlasio have messed up the coronavirus response. They screamed when the fed tried to close the border and instead urged nyc residents go to Chinatown and eat. They kept schools open and didn’t shut down the city until March almost over. Instead of letting all trains run while people still working they cut back on trains thereby forcing workers into crowded trains. They allowed homeless to take over trains thereby forcing essential workers to have to sit next to homeless. Cuomo's own brother who supposedly had virus was screaming and threatening a biker in the Hamptons along with his wife who did get the virus without a mask and not self quarantining. PPEs are not responsibility of feds but state. AFTER 9/11 A QUESTION TO BE ASKED WHY DIDNT CUOMO STOCKPILE MASKS ? Surely in a city which has several terrorist attacks, masks would be considered essential especially after the dust killed thousands of first responders, why did he sell off the ventilators he received?
