Unless you're talking about a walmart, target or a Kohl's, not sure which stores you mean. This place was obviously not built for the people of New Jersey nor for the working people of New York. It's meant to be a tourist trap and a place where high end brands can show off their wares for advertising. No one is making any money in this place. Since my boys were babies, they have been running around the battery park fields playing soccer and interacting with Manny. We are so incredibly lucky to have him as part of our downtown community. Are there any updates to this article? 2 elderly friends of my mom live in Gateway. One in 400 and another in 200. They asked me to write as one lease ends June other in July. That’s only 6 months months away after Holidays. We need time to assist them as one has lived there for over 30 years! — Carmen on Gateway tenants battling to keep rents ‘affordable’

Rita - rent stabilization was to be applied to the units which were under lease during the rent abatement period. Without a rent stabilized lease, the penalty to the landlord includes: - Stabilization for life (while the tenant is still a leasee), and - Rent overcharge refund Once the tax abatement is done, if the tenant had a valid rent stabilized lease, the landlord could have de-registered the apartment making it a market rate unit. While I do have a real estate license, I am no lawyer, but I agree the landlord knew about the abatement (how couldn't they?!), and the 421-g exposure on purchase of the buildings. Their recent quarterly conference call indicated the lawsuit should have no real impact on their revenue and net profit. A tad unpleasant to have an update on Laughing Man 2 and Stella in the same week's post so one must assume you don't know what went on with that very unpleasant real estate exchange. Laughing Man 1 nor 2 will NEVER get a penny of my hard earned $ and I would like to believe many decent people would boycott them as well if they knew what transpired. On a side note, Jackman's wife didn't even wait for the Stella team to finish moving out (before their lease expired) before she was in there with her tape measure and crew. Classy very classy.
