I LOVE this sculpture and miss it terribly. In my opinion, it's the tone of the first sentence that could be triggering all these responses, not necessarily the content. To say, "Is it just teenage girls who are obsessed with these weird little dough pockets of ice cream, or are there more of you out there?" puts the journalist's judgment on anyone out there who likes mochi, no matter what their race.
