I've walked by this painting a couple times and was also surprised that a painting would be hanging outdoors on the brick wall. The ground floor commercial area of the building that the painting is hanging on is getting renovated currently. I've yet to figure out the expense part as well. I spend a lot of time in Japan, and so I'm used to using phone/SUICA there, but when I'm here and working for my company (there) I'm reimbursed for fares, which add up to a lot over time. Agreed. Too many venues just treat the vegetarian/vegan "options" as an after-thought. This is gradually changing, though, but still, I find it best to go to restaurants that are completely vegetarian or vegan. That way you also know that you won't "accidentally" be served dead animals in the dish (happened to me a couple of times). I'm surprised there aren't more vegetarian places in the neighborhood. It's the main reason we don't go dining out much and generally cook at home. The Village has lots of such options, in contrast (Souen, PeaceFood, Red Bamboo, GoZen, Dirt Candy, Organic Grill, Caravan of Dreams, Superiority Burger, Divya's, Nix, Blossom, etc.). At least there are a few in Chinatown (Bodhi, Buddha Bodai, Vegetarian Dim Sum House), but I can't think of any in TriBeCa. — Marcus on Los Tacos No. 1 is open

I don't remember Craig's Shoes when it was at 114 Chambers, but for many years, and until its end, it was at the SE corner of Chambers and W. Broadway, where the AKA Tribeca (Smyth) hotel is now. It closed when they tore down the building to build the hotel. It was a reliable source for shoes for my husband, but I suppose Zappos would have taken it out if the real estate market didn't.
