New York City cannot legalize what New York State makes illegal. Motorized, non-pedal-assist bikes are illegal in New York State. Blame Cuomo. NYC did what it could on e-bikes, and now you are faulting them for that? How does that work? Who knows whether the corporate bikes were the impetus or not? They held them off (to protect Citi Bike's investment in docks) as long as possible. I love the lavender under the FDR, it's a welcome addition to really make the East Side of the island come alive. I've lived in FiDi for almost 5 years and the whole stretch under the FDR always was horrible, especially given how beautiful the West Side of Lower Manhattan is and has been for some time. Lavender seems like an odd choice at first, but from a color perspective it's essentially just grey, it won't fade or wear like let's say white or yellow would. It also has a massive added benefit in brightening the entire area under the highway since it reflects a ton of light. I don’t understand the Margaret Chin bashing here. I am grateful that her office was helpful to me when I had an issue that fell within its purview, and I am not Chinese and I do not live in Chinatown. To insist that a politician should have magical powers to dictate rental agreements between owners and tenants is not only unrealistic, but scary, and if a politician were doing it in a situation you *didn’t* like you would probably call it corruption. Thank you so much " Old Tribeca"! You put it in words better than I ever can. Most of these people haven't lived here long enough to see what has gone on the past couple of " decades". I been here around 30 years and no one wanted to move down here. It was a melting pot of working class people, every rash, religion who fought for our food emporium way before I came in the 70s. Greenwich Street will be dark and deserted at night ( no lights) if we lose our supermarket where I shop every day. I can't afford wholefoods like most of these people can. And yes, Margaret Chin is a waste. Never did Anything to help us before.
