To each their own. I liked the graffiti and loved the old neighborhood. It wasn't a plague - it was a cool place to live and work. The public planters were taken care of by neighbors and the Greening of Greenwich. They are full of weeds now. It was quiet and even though AREA was on Hubert, it didn't bother anyone. So glad to hear that Da Claudio has done this and that those products are available. I am always surprised at how much plastic is thrown away at Whole Foods. I understand they have "recycling" but I am not sure all of the different plastics can be recycled. Traders Joe's have compatible produce bags and don't serve tasting bites or drinks in hard plastic. The lots on which Whole Foods, etc. were built, in addition to other empty spaces all over, had been parking lots; and before they were parking lots they were fields of weeds and wildflowers like chamomile. Dear Erik Da Claudio Ristorante stopped using plastic straws over 6 months ago, only paper straws, we use only sustainable and biodegradable coffee cups and lids. Take out and delivery containers are biodegradable. To go cutlery that we use is made of corn or bambolo To go soup cups and lids are from reciclable paper. Bar napkins are from reciclable paper. You are right about the use of the term Shutter, not Shudder. But they did shudder when slamming in the wind. The purpose of the shutters was not to keep light or rain out, but they were a fire prevention device to prevent air or wind from fanning a fire. Most of the older post Civil War warehouses around here then had these devices. The Staple St. Bridge was once almost removed by the Fire Dept. as a hazard when they found out that Mindy lived there(for$50/month). But I saw the Chief in the alley and reassured him that she had moved, which she had. Very tough situation. He wants roughly 100 SF, has a very thin budget, and needs to be on the ground floor for visibility purposes. You might see a lot of vacant retail units throughout the neighborhood, but none of the landlords are going to chop up that space and allocate 100 SF for a single user.
