  • If you want a hardware store or a bakery, no one is stopping you from opening one . . . — Reademan on New Kid on the Block: Tribeca Delicious Bites

  • "Why are cannabis and caviar stores 'problems?'" Regarding the cannabis dispensaries, there's simply too damn many of them, full stop. Regarding the caviar emporium, NO ONE NEEDS THAT. How about a book store or a hardware store or a bakery or something a bit more useful? "Why be such a sanctimonious scold?" I'm merely expressing my opinion. If that makes me sanctimonious, so be it. "No one is putting handcuffs on you and forcing you to patronize those places" No, they're not, but I can't help thinking that the community writ large would benefit from those places catering to the needs of the greater populace, and not just comparatively niche concerns. "Why take “offense” and want to cancel people who are different than you." Again, these are my opinions. You may beg to differ. "Bet you would like to eliminate the MAGA crowd as well." You fucking bet I would. — Alex in NYC on New Kid on the Block: Tribeca Delicious Bites

  • Why are cannabis and caviar stores "problems?" They might not be your cup of tea but there obviously is a market. Why be such a sanctimonious scold? No one is putting handcuffs on you and forcing you to patronize those places. Why take "offense" and want to cancel people who are different than you. Bet you would like to eliminate the MAGA crowd as well. — Lowrider on New Kid on the Block: Tribeca Delicious Bites

  • I wonder how many businesses -- mostly pharmacies like CVS -- have significantly fewer sales because people just don't want to have to bother to wait for someone to come and unlock the shelves and then, as CJ says, feel rushed to make a decision. I just try to go somewhere where there are no locked shelves. — George Bacon on In the News: Now we know why there were cops at Target

  • No, two different people. This gentleman was older and in worse shape than the mainstay guy of Worth St who typically looks like he's enjoying a basecamp in Yosemite — P on A man dies on the sidewalk on Franklin Street

  • I was afraid this was the man this article was about. He was friendly for several weeks up until the last 7-10 days when I noticed he began drinking. He would smile and say good morning, exchange pleasantries from his seat at the loading dock. Then as of about a week ago he had a flask in his hand all hours of the day and would regularly yell obscenities. RIP buddy — P on A man dies on the sidewalk on Franklin Street

  • New York's homeless shelters segregate rather than care for people as humans. I was invited to join a nonprofit board on the issue, but the ED's pitch—"Do you want homeless people outside your property? No one does. That's why supporting us matters"—struck me as wealthy left virtue-signaling. I wasn’t buying it. — Sal on A man dies on the sidewalk on Franklin Street

  • Couple of suggestions: The food cart vendors (like Mohammed and the fruit guy on Greenwich) can maybe rent out. Or the bike guy can rent out. Perhaps a specialty bakery like frenchette or magnolia. — Sandra on Tribeca Plate at Bogardus Plaza will close Friday
