I’ve been a fan of Buddha’s Top Chef wins, I definitely will try the restaurant. We are fortunate in NYC to have the top in their fields from art, Food and culture come to our city. — Lisa NYC on Caviar store and restaurant coming to L’Angolo space
"Texture patterns must be detectable to visually impaired pedestrians." from U.S. Access Board. "About the ADA and ABA Accessibility Guidelines for the Public Right-of-Way" "The Access Board has published new guidelines under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Architectural Barriers Act (ABA) that address access to sidewalks and streets, crosswalks, curb ramps, pedestrian signals, on-street parking, and other components of public right-of-way. These guidelines also review shared use paths, which are designed primarily for use by bicyclists and pedestrians for transportation and recreation purposes." As a new resident, I am the first to admit my ignorance with regard to the rules around maintenance of cobblestone and maybe it's just me, but is anyone else concerned about DOT's complete disinterest (is that it?) in preserving or restoring cobblestone streets/lanes in historic areas of Tribeca and NYC? I know it was a complete mess prior to this work, but this happened in Staple Street is a disgrace and should not be a permanent solution. Bring back the cobblestone! I will check out the CB1 meeting notes, but is there a Tribeca preservation/heritage committee? — Mary on The end of cobblestones on Staple Street
"middle range places like Odeon..." -Tell me how out of touch you are while attempting to explain how 'down to earth" you are — Bill Williams on Caviar store and restaurant coming to L’Angolo space
Do we have a sense for why the wheelchair ramps with the sensory/indicator bumps need to have plastic overlay? They spend money to make the area compliant and look really nice but the plastic cracks and breaks and never gets replaced and looks bad. I’m sure the answer is cost but just wondering if anyone has a sense if they even discuss another solution. — M on Six landmarked corners and crosswalks to get a rehab
Couldn’t agree more! I’m a busy mom of 3 and I’m so excited for this place. Perfect date night experience, spot to meet the girls or pick up a fun gift to bring to a dinner party. And to top it off it’s a block away from where I live. Great addition to the neighborhood! — Shishi on Caviar store and restaurant coming to L’Angolo space
This is AWESoME!!! Miss the ole Tribeca where it was quality restaurants. If you can afford Tribeca you can afford to eat here once in a while. This is not your only restaurant in town. — Sandra on Caviar store and restaurant coming to L’Angolo space
You obviously missed the point. Tribeca definitely doesn't need fast food (MCD needs to be torn down) but rather middle range places like Tinys, Odeon, Max, Khe Yo and so on. Less stuffy environment. — Michelle Jr. Jr. on Caviar store and restaurant coming to L’Angolo space
Shocked to hear the news while searching for Picasso Pizza, hoping to try their vodka pizza again after moving back to the city. Their pizza, especially the vodka pizza, was unmatched during my time here. As a former Gateway resident, my friends from overseas loved it too, and we were all amazed by their unique flavors. It's really disappointing to hear they've closed, and it's a loss for the BPC community. I wish I had been in the city earlier after COVID to support their comeback. Very sad and frustrating. — Carol on Picasso Pizza, a stalwart of Battery Park City, has closed
I'm really excited about this outpost. Welcome to the neighborhood Buddha! We've enjoyed you on Top Chef and will enjoy you downtown. This is a great location and is a welcome break up of the preponderance of Italian food on that stretch of Greenwich :-). — Yael on Caviar store and restaurant coming to L’Angolo space
Hooray!!! Buckets!!! — Len on Pier 25 playground gets a facelift
I tend to agree with Michelle. The last thing Tribeca needs is another overpriced restaurant like L’abeille. We need more affordable, quality restaurants like Gigino, Terra, Bubbys, Anejo, Odeon etc. Hopefully we can soon do away with these Michelin star chasing restaurants in Tribeca! — Dad Of Tribeca on Caviar store and restaurant coming to L’Angolo space
LOL TriBeCa may, in fact, be the NYC neighborhood that is best described as “home to people who want overpriced food”. (and P.S., there are lots of reasonably affordable, no-frills dining options in the neighborhood…NishNush, Argo, Ajisai, to name just a few). — Reader on Reade on Caviar store and restaurant coming to L’Angolo space
McDonalds is still serving. — Michelle Jr. on Caviar store and restaurant coming to L’Angolo space
Wow, this looks amazing! Thrilled to see another talented chef investing/setting up in the neighborhood! What makes a vibrant neighborhood in NYC is when the full spectrum of $ to $$$$ options exists. Tribeca has a wonderful variety, which is why we love it here! We are longtime DINKS with our first little one on the way and we love that we don’t have to go uptown, or abroad, but around the corner for world class dining. — E. on Reade on Caviar store and restaurant coming to L’Angolo space
Good to see this update on her. I was crew on for five seasons, back in the 90s, two of those as mate. One slight correction: she has never been fitted with an engine for propulsion. Instead, she had a yawl boat to push her when she wasn't sailing. I spent many hours at the controls of that boat, following commands shouted down from the quarterdeck. It's very sad that she's left Maine and will likely never sail again, but I'm glad to see her preserved in some form, at least. She needs major repairs to remain in one piece and afloat, and unfortunately there just wasn't a way to make the math work out in the tourist trade. Turning her into a restaurant is better, in my mind, than seeing her rot to pieces on a mud flat. I wish the best of luck to her current owners and everybody else who works on this restoration. I'll have to come visit her when they get this project up and running. — Jeff on Nosy Neighbor: What’s the story with the ship docked at Pier 25?
Sorry but this is beyond ridiculous. Tribeca is no longer home to people who want overpriced food and nonsense specialties so why do places like this keep opening up (and failing at that). Those that live in the area (mostly DINKS or young families) want good food at reasonable prices, not another $100+/entree restaurant. These so called "restaurateurs" clearly know nothing about making something for the target audience. — Michelle on Caviar store and restaurant coming to L’Angolo space
Great project that balances historic preservation/aesthetics and safety for pedestrians (in particular those with mobility issues). Would also be wonderful to see that stretch of Greenwich south of Canal narrowed, with a wider sidewalk, additional outdoor seating and planted areas on the east side of Greenwich. — Reader on Reade on Six landmarked corners and crosswalks to get a rehab
I must be in the minority that thinks the splash of color looks great on this block. We love the Firmdale Hotels in London and my pre-teen daughter loves the English high tea at both their London and NYC properties. This new park is not in Tribeca. It’s one mile north in the Meatpacking District. I was there during opening day and it’s a beautiful place. — Susan on Gansevoort Peninsula opens in Hudson River Park
There's a resolution being developed, coming out of the transportation committee of CB1, to help setup a process by which the city can follow to ensure the maintenance and replacement of cobblestones/Belgian blocks .. might be worth viewing the last committee meeting online.. — B.Thompson on The end of cobblestones on Staple Street
I think it's done. Folks downtown have been working on it for a while... — Tribeca Citizen on In the News: 60 Wall is denied landmark status
Is there anything still to be done about the lobby at 60 Wall, or is its destruction a foregone conclusion? I used to live a block away from its cocaine madness, and it's a sight. It really just needs sprucing up. We can't keep losing parts of our history. And I don't even like PoMo. — malcolm on In the News: 60 Wall is denied landmark status
