  • I also think this is a great plan and would like to thank the people at the Friends of Duane Park for the work to get this going. They are a great organization and our neighborhood is lucky to have them. — Elizabeth on An effort to expand Duane Park is underway

  • Flushing Meadows Corona Park is a New York City park controlled by deBlasio, while BPC is a NY State park. Cuomo controls only the State park, so that is where he can put it. — james on Committee formed to site essential workers monument in BPC

  • They are there at taxpayer expense, presumably. Target apparently waits until shoplifters have amassed enough thefts to warrant felony charges. https://www.paypath.com/Small-Business/why-target-is-the-worst-store-to-shoplift-from " As it turns out, alongside their forensic team and top-of-the-line, in-store facial recognition technology, Target is known for actually letting shoplifters get away with their bounty...up until they reach the monetary threshold for a felony shoplifting charge. This means that while a Walmart LP will stop a shoplifter regardless of whether they're stealing a $5 DVD or a $500 dollar TV, Target might allow a shoplifter to steal 100 $5 DVDs over time, all while building up a massive, fool-proof felony case against them. And here's the craziest part––they organize these efforts across stores and even state-lines. Essentially, if you steal at any Target, anywhere in the country, they're quite possibly building up a case against you." — james on Nosy Neighbor: Why are there police cars and officers stationed at Target

  • This is old news. Deutsche Bank announced it was leaving long ago and when they went remote during the pandemic they simply never came back. This is actually great news as FiDi continues its transformation and diversification away from finance and more into TAMI tenants. The tower will be gut renovated, which it sorely needs after 30 years as a single tenant user and the hideous lobby will be transformed into a much more inviting public space. — Luis Vazquez (FiDi Fan Page) on In the News: The last bank leaves Wall Street

  • I'm all for this, but why not expand all the way North and just have one street for cars to either continue East on Duane or turn North on Hudson? This is a PRIME opportunity to create more public greenspace that isn't free parking for private property. Go big here as you won't have the opportunity again. — DB on An effort to expand Duane Park is underway

  • I just don't understand why this HAS to be in BPC. JUST SAY NO! Place it in Flushing Meadows, next to Corona, which was the hardest hit neighborhood in the city, if not the country. They actually want it and it would mean more there than it would here. NO public space should be sacrificed for this here, when we have precious little as it is. — Luis Vazquez (FiDi Fan Page) on Committee formed to site essential workers monument in BPC

  • Typically, when a store or other establishment has police stationed in their store, they are usually off duty officers and they are paying their salary, not the municipality. A lot of officers have off duty side jobs to make extra money and they are able to wear their uniforms and pretty much act in their full legal capacity — Reese on Nosy Neighbor: Why are there police cars and officers stationed at Target

  • I just heard the news about Scott “I am shocked ”. He was our Stitches dog walker, he was very loving and caring to our Stitch. When our Stitch passed away he comforted me and my husband. Scott gave us photos of Stitch which he had taken during those times that he walked stitch. He told us that our boy is waiting for us at the rainbow bridge. Scott was one of a kind loving his dogs on walks. He mentioned to us that he loved walking his dogs. My thoughts go out to Vivian. Rest In Peace Scott give Stitch a good walk as always. — Michelle & Nelson Marty on Scott Geyer, local artist and dog walker, dies at 69

  • The move says more about Deutsche than about Wall Street, really. They had to downsize their office because their US business has been on the decline for years, from a combination of their own misconduct and disadvantages which have affected all foreign banks trying to do business here. There are plenty of layoffs which have occurred over the past years and they no longer could justify such a massive building. It would be sad, but then again, it’s Deutsche… — GA on In the News: The last bank leaves Wall Street

  • Scott was such a kind and caring man - together with Vivian, they showed tremendous love and affection to our dog Maddie (and us as well)!. To actually have Maddie be excited to be picked up by either of them was such a great feeling and a testament to their warmth and kindness. Scott will be missed but not forgotten. And of course our thoughts and love go out to Vivian - she always has a big smile and kind words to all of the two and four-legged Tribeca neighbors! — Alexander Wolfman on Scott Geyer, local artist and dog walker, dies at 69
