Did you ask that question about all the workers at independent and/or small businesses driven out by these banks via spiked rents these banks paid? Nope. A bank teller can find work as one elsewhere a helluvalot easier than a bookstore owner or cashier. Many are assigned to other branches. Let me know when a middleaged coffeeshop owner gets a job managing another indy coffee shop or a Starbucks. Or reopens elsewhere. Or reopens a new place. Middle-aged not 30. — Excuse me? on Chase and Capital One to close local branches
So sad, was a great place for lunch - delicious food, beautiful decor & excellent service. — TC on China Blue has closed permanently
My plan would be to allow indoor dining right away with restrictions on capacity and spacing along with the use of partitions wherever possible as other cities are doing. I don't think its wise to let the restaurant business in NYC become extinct. If we wait until "sometime next year" as the mayor suggests, then we're looking at about a year that restaurants could not fully operate. No restaurant can survive that long. Look at how many have permanently closed already. Outdoor dining won't be feasible once the warm weather fades in a matter of weeks and they cannot survive only on offering take out. — PeterD on Recent openings around the neighborhood
Keep up the self-projection. Trump would be proud of you. The only troubled soul is you, bigmouth, although I see you got nothing left. I am laser focused on you and you can't stand it. You got caught. Everyone sees you for what you are, finally. You're a spiteful, mean person just like Trump. You made it political. "Election" in a post about grafittied post office walls. You are all over the place with your whining about de Blasio and Cuomo who are doing the best job with this pandemic than ANY big city mayor-governor combo. We got hit first and population density was our tragedy. They have led in flattening the curve. They warned us. Your dear leader Trump and his lackeys deSantis, Kemp, and Abbott didn't and never will flatten the curve or warn us. DeJoy wants to keep Trump in power with sneaky sabotage. — Excuse me? on Nosy Neighbor: When will the USPS clean the Canal Street post office?
And what's your plan? Have indoor dining after our infection rate has dwindled to the lowest rate of ANY major US city? You will have to wait awhile, ok? Keep crying about de Blasio - Trump would be proud of you. — Excuse me? on Recent openings around the neighborhood
Have you ever had your reading comprehension checked? Are you sure you're not just arguing with one of those other voices in your head? You're over the top and all over the place with unfocused wild accusations. Wow. You are a troubled soul. — PeterD on Nosy Neighbor: When will the USPS clean the Canal Street post office?
Yes you are one because you will not prove otherwise. Go ahead. Tell us all why you're not one. Since YOU brought the election into this non-political convo first, ok? You are accusing everyone of slamming the USPS along with deJoy. YOU made this post political, and who but a Trump shill (who wants readers to think we all have a problem with the USPS when we don't) would invoke the election? We have a problem those trying to weaken the postal system so Trump can get reelected. One of them is deJoy and you sure as he'll aren't showing your disdain for him or Trump about thst. I'm no spokesperson for anyone. I think most people around here hate Trump and deJoy, too bad if you don't like it. Or that the overwhelming majority of TriBeCans voted Clinton over Trump, de Blasio over that xenophobic pro-Muslim ban racist bigot Malliotakis. And since you wanna bring up the mayor I'll take him over fascist thug Giuliani and aloof autocrat Bloomberg any day of the week. BTW far less murders under de Blasio than Giuliani or Bloomberg - deal with that, too. You drag Trump into everything. You don't have to mention him eirher. No anger management needed for me. Love the self-projection - just like Trump. — Excuse me? on Nosy Neighbor: When will the USPS clean the Canal Street post office?
I am not a Trump shill and you cannot prove otherwise. My dislike of de Blasio doesn't make me a Trump shill. You drag Trump into this as you have in previous comments. Seems you're obsessed with inserting Trump into all of your comments. You also drag deJoy into this and now you have elected yourself spokesperson for the neighborhood. And of course you still avoid trying to prove your false accusations. Just like when you post under the name "D", you're all over the place. Have you considered anger management? — PeterD on Nosy Neighbor: When will the USPS clean the Canal Street post office?
Let's see...you oddly think everyone posting here is criticizing the USPS when we are not. You're implying that because many of us in this neighborhood (myself included) think Louis deJoy is what I said is he in my previous post (and he is a sneaky vote supressor) that means we are criticizing the USPS as well as him when we are not. You're alluding to what is going on right now re: the USPS. I know what you're doing with your post, we all do, so knock it off. Because people complain about one issue about one post office means we're criticizing the entire USPS as well as deJoy - that's your insinuation and deflection. You are a Trump shill or you'd say you aren't, not tell me to prove it - YOU prove you aren't one. I know you sure sound like one in previous comments. I think it's pretty self-evident. — Excuse me? on Nosy Neighbor: When will the USPS clean the Canal Street post office?
Mostly looking as to whether anyone has noticed/cares or other thoughts. Someone has started playing and singing everyday in Duane Park. On average this person has been playing for about 6 to 7 hours a day and mostly appears to be singing religious songs. There is rarely a moment one can sit in Duane Park without this as the singing goes from around noon to 12ish or 2PM and then again at 4 to around 8:30 PM. I’m all for people trying to make some money and get their voice out especially in these times, but it would also be nice to sit in the Park during these hours and enjoy the relative quiet. — LFQ on Let’s close Duane Street to through traffic for summer
Ummm, "shilling for Trump?" You are sorely mistaken. Please provide evidence. I'll wait. — PeterD on Nosy Neighbor: When will the USPS clean the Canal Street post office?
Drift In has a really lovely vibe. Lots of twinkly lights, beachy seating and set off the main drag a bit so diners can people watch as the sun sets. On my walk back from The High Line (book a ticket for timed entry) last Thursday the place was buzzy - but not too buzzy (!). The spacing between tables is generous. — Jolene on Recent openings around the neighborhood
Our wonderful mayor strikes again. Enjoy cold blustery sidewalk seating this winter. And where do you propose those people in the 80% of branches you think should close go work? Or should they just lose they're jobs? — JN on Chase and Capital One to close local branches
We are so sad to see Billy and the Tokyo Bay team close up shop!! Before we met, Roland would get their sushi deluxe at least twice a week. After we moved in and Clare cooked more, it became more of a weekly tradition. We also loved going to sit at the sushi counter, order some delicious sake - Billy always had great suggestions for the best fish of the day. Billy, please let us know how we can support your next endeavor!! — Clare & Roland on Tonight is the last night for Tokyo Bay
No one is criticizing the USPS. We are, however, criticizing Louis deJoy the Trump lackey donor bozo (who never worked a day in his life as a USPS worker prior to buying his job) for deliberately slowing down the mail to discourage voting and eliminate votes against his master Trump via reducing sorting machines and staff time. But keep shilling for Trump like you normally do. Yawn. — Excuse me? on Nosy Neighbor: When will the USPS clean the Canal Street post office?
Come on people. Didn't you get the memo? No criticizing the USPS in any way, shape, or form until after the election. — PeterD on Nosy Neighbor: When will the USPS clean the Canal Street post office?
I just walked by there an hour ago and there was a team pressure-washing the vandalized wall. When I walked by again soon after, the team was gone, and only half the wall had been cleaned so far. Hopefully they will continue on in the coming days. — Marcus on Nosy Neighbor: When will the USPS clean the Canal Street post office?
The post office rarely cleans up the tons of trash that accumulate on their sidewalks. We’ve asked them a couple of times. On the other hand we get a ticket if there is a single piece of blown trash into our street gutter. If they can’t keep up with the sidewalk cleaning, I don’t know how they will tackle graffiti. — Michael on Nosy Neighbor: When will the USPS clean the Canal Street post office?
Unfortunately, it seems apparent that the local Il Mulino in Tribeca is going to close. It never did well pre-Covid. On its strong nights, it only garnered 50-75% capacity. Most nights were below 50%. IM never gained a large local following and the business is highly dependent on corporate dining and, to a lesser degree, travelers. As we all know, the high-end corporate business will not return for quite some time - likely not until a vaccine is widely disseminated and the Covid problem has been eradicated. The banks, law firms, hedge funds and other IM corporate customers are simply not going to allow their employees to entertain or host events until the vaccine is successful. According to the bankruptcy filings, IM had been struggling and losing money across all of its restaurants for numerous years (long before the pandemic). Its expansion strategy was overly aggressive and highly dependent on debt financings. According to its largest creditor, the reason why IM has not shut money-losing restaurants such as Tribeca is that owner Jerry Katzoff has provided personal guarantees to banks and landlords and would be forced to immediately repay these obligations if such locations also filed bankruptcy. In short, it does not look like our local IM is going to survive. — Ruby on Seen & Heard: The return of the sports bar

The prolification of bank branches really put a stain on NYC. Who the F needs a branch of the same bank every 3 blocks, often a block apart. WTF, this is NYC people. You can't walk half a funkin mile to get to your bank? Not to mention 98% of banking can be done online now anwway. I hope 80% of the BoA, Chase, WF, Cap1 branches close. What a waste of space and a blithe on the city... — Andy on Chase and Capital One to close local branches

If you bring your 3- or 10-speed bike out, you may be very disappointed. Aside from peddling through some deep sand that will get into your gears, you can't bike fast. The walks are narrow and filled with people with wagons, kids, luggage and groceries in tow. In addition, the Fire Island National Seashore often restricts the Berma Road to local residents only, directing all others to the beach. Saltaire has many bike restrictions and Ocean Beach does not allow any bikes in their downtown area all season. Yes, you can drive to Field 5 and bike to Kismet, but you're better off just walking the sandy road or on the beach to Kismet. People also regularly "borrow" bikes to go from town to town so be sure to lock your bike if you do come. — GJ on Field Trip: Bike into Fire Island
