NY Times: "After the Fire, a Chinatown Museum Sifts Through What Survived" "Families are celebrating hundreds of boxes of heirlooms that were unloaded from the scorched interior of 70 Mulberry Street. [...] The vast majority of the archives were retrieved from the wreckage, but it is too soon to tell how much can be preserved during the monthslong process. Here are some artifacts that did survive." https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/23/arts/design/chinatown-museum-fire-archives.html — James on The building — and the history — destroyed at 70 Mulberry
Just a heads up for folks with dogs! We tried to bring our pup to the Tribeca Dog Park at pier 26 on Sunday and it was closed (it was open on Saturday, so its closure came as a surprise). — Joanna on If you are desperate for fresh air…

If we're getting serious about fining people for practicing poor COVID 19 prevention tactics, then just make them permanent for the 2020-21 flu season. However, I can not see a police officer issuing a citation for an uncovered sneeze. While we're at it, since this city silence is actually quite calming and awesome, perhaps it's time to get serious about big fines for noise pollution after our city reboots. — MattieNYC on If you are desperate for fresh air…
It's not irresponsible to go outside so I think it's unfair to call this article irresponsible. What is irresponsible are the groups going outside together, particular big packs of kids playing because parents don't want to be indoors with them. And it changes daily. So cut her some slack. I will say as a runner, I have stopped running on the bike path because there are just too many people, but streets are getting empty so it's a surprisingly nice alternative. I think everyone needs to use their judgement - if you go to one of these parks and it's crowded, leave. — Kristin on If you are desperate for fresh air…
The CEO made a statement yesterday (Sunday) that all physical stores will be shut. Only online shopping. — Andrea on Whole Foods limiting shoppers to 50 at a time
Just noticed that Gigino has a GoFund Me for laid off staff. Though they are still doing take out from Greenwich Street, they don't need as many people. I hope that they will all make it through and that people will do what they can to help them as it's a long time neighborhood favorite! — elizabeth on Seen & Heard: Eataly is open and serving to-go
good question- the answer is for many restaurants and food businesses is it's not financially feasible. the restaurant has to have at least 1 or 2 chefs, a porter, a delivery person( could be the porter) and 1 manager( to take orders and manage day to day operations like ordering, scheduling, communications, paper work etc. depending on the payroll, for some restaurants 20 + take out meals will not cover even the staff payroll — MADELINE LANCIANI on Seen & Heard: Eataly is open and serving to-go
Fully restocked as of Saturday 3/21 when I shopped. Plenty available. It does look like a supply chain change/disruption, as you do see more space between products and several former brands are no longer available. Trader Joe's at Spring St & 6th had a long line Sunday. 6' social distancing chalk-lines drawn on sidewalk. About a 20 minute wait at 2pm. Once in, the extra space allowed for really quick and easy shopping, the stock was terrific, the employees were kind and helpful. They were playing Billy Idol's "Hot in the City" and I could actually hear it. Pricing even seemed unusually LOW, too. — MattieNYC on COVID-19 Update: New hours for Whole Foods

Agree with previous comments. The original angle is correct and should not be used as “best practice”. This is not a pregnancy text where you pee on a stick. The results need to be analyzed by a lab which is taxing much needed resources. Not to mention the nasal swab goes a fair amount up into the sinuses and I doubt any wealthy layman is going to stick and swab far enough up there properly due to the discomfort. So you just wasted 100 much needed tests. Well done. — JD on In the News: Man jumps to his death in BPC

Not enough tests to test everyone. Wouldn't tests have to be frequently repeated on every individual anyway? Since a negative test result person could become infected the next day, or the next minute, and not know that they are now harboring the virus, and potentially spreading it. We should all behave on the assumption that we may be infected, even if currently showing no symptoms. That's why we have the increasingly stringent stay-at-home orders. — Marcus on In the News: Man jumps to his death in BPC

About an hour ago, BBB sent an email. “ Starting Monday, March 23, all Bed Bath & Beyond locations will close until April 3.” — Cordcutter on Whole Foods limiting shoppers to 50 at a time
BBB hasn't sent out a new email after the one saying that some would close and some would have reduced hours (based on how big their Harmon and cleaning products sections were - bigger were staying open but for reduced hours), but the website now says all stores closed until April 3. — N on Whole Foods limiting shoppers to 50 at a time
That is not an “angle” that is just grossly unfair. And no we should not be using it as a “best practice” example. That is also ridiculous. — GeorgeNYC on In the News: Man jumps to his death in BPC
Even if you go outside to parks or anywhere else, the idea is to still physically distance from others. This is not the time for contact sports or crowded picnics. I went to Gourmet Garage this morning around 8 am and there was only 1 other person shopping. They had a great selection of stuff..including mini/purse size purell's and various wipes that I haven't seen anywhere in ages. I asked the woman who checked me out (who was in a great mood) if they had just gotten fresh stock in and she said they got a big load in yesterday. — JulieJewel on Whole Foods limiting shoppers to 50 at a time
This article is irresponsible. There are way too many people at parks, playgrounds and walking / biking paths. Kindly stop encouraging people to "go out for fresh air". Yes, occasionally go outside but not in this manner where we have a high density of people. Staying inside and social distancing will save lives. Thank you. — Not mayor deblasio on If you are desperate for fresh air…
Curious...question re. all 3 of the closing restaurants. As Maxwell’s says: “ We are not staying open for delivery or takeout and therefore our entire staff is in need of financial help.” Why not give it a go? Perhaps you can’t retain your entire staff but there’s a whole city looking to keep eating. Is it just not financially feasible? — FmrTribecan on Seen & Heard: Eataly is open and serving to-go
