Seen & Heard: 1WTC’s Spire Changes Colors

1WTC by Albert C Lee••• Thanks to @AlbertCLee for pointing out that 1 World Trade Center’s spire is being lit up in various colors.

••• The Bell Bates space on Reade was rumored to be turning into a school, and then that was said to fall through. Now it’s going to be…. a temporary Halloween costume store! (Wait, isn’t there a Spirit Halloween store at Broadway and Franklin? And Ricky’s on Broadway and Park Row? How many of these stores do we need?) Thanks to R. for the photo.

••• Remember: New Amsterdam Market‘s monthly extravaganza is today from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

••• A quick update to yesterday’s news about the Fairway Market: The Post said it’ll be 52,000 square feet, and I meant to check how big the Whole Foods Tribeca is, just for comparison. It’s 69,000 square feet.

  1. I think it’s hard to compare the size of WF, which probably includes the upstairs area and definitely includes the Dosa & Sushi island, suburban-style-wide aisles, the big free standing low freezers and refrigerator cases by the fish and meat counters to a typical jam-packed to the rafters Fairway in order to estimate how many products they will offer. According to the Fairway site, the Red Hook store is 52K sf and Kips Bay is 42 K sf, so if the Post has correct details, this is going to be a serious store and a terrific addition to the neighborhood.
