9/3 News: Goodbye, Janovic

janovic-by-tribeca-citizenJanovic is closing its Church Street location. Signs in the window say its last day will be Saturday, Sept. 5. No word yet on what, if anything, will take the paint store’s place.

• “The city’s Department of Education appears ready to start the mysterious and potentially contentious process of deciding where Lower Manhattan parents can expect to send their children to public school in the years to come,” reports the Tribeca Trib, which has details on the first meeting of the District 2 Community Education Council on Sept. 23.

LowerManhattan.info has an update on the progress of Beekman Tower, the Frank Gehry–designed skyscraper taking shape east of City Hall Park: “Superstructure erection is underway, now at 60 stories. • The concrete superstructure should be completed by May 2010. • Curtain wall installation continues and should be completed by August 2010.  • The brick facade on the lower stories is complete. • The contract RFP for finishing work on the building’s school was issued in late May 2009. • Full sidewalk closures on Spruce and Beekman Streets beside the work site. • Extended work hours Monday through Saturdays 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. • The rooftop safety ‘cocoon’ was reinstalled in early July 2009.”
