Art Students League to the Rescue!

I was in a crabby mood today—due in good part to the heat, no doubt—but it lifted when, while walking down Staple Street, I noticed an artist painting at an easel. And then another one. And another one! And then, in and around Duane Park and across Hudson, there were maybe 10 more. It was fantastic—as if a flock of talented butterflies had come to visit us. I looped around and checked out their work; seeing the buildings through their eyes was a treat. Sue Stotsky—who’s in the photo below, hiding behind the easel, and who was reading this site just last night!—explained they’re in a class at the Art Students League. I’m going to contact the instructor to see if they’ll send me images of their finished results…. Maybe my enthusiasm is dorky but they really did make my day.

  1. I love this: “It was fantastic—as if a flock of talented butterflies had come to visit us.” I remember exiting my apartment one time and someone was doing the same thing, painting the Liquor Store/J.Crew shop. Instant happiness!
