Tiny Streets: Part 2

Asha Agnish shot all of the tiny streets—a block long, maybe two—in and around Tribeca. Part 1 ran Wednesday. Now here’s part 2: Catherine Lane, Elk Street, Franklin Place, and that little spur on the south side of Harrison. (If Catherine Lane married Franklin Place, they could hyphenate their names and become the Lane-Places.)

  1. The photos are great – I believe the spur off Harrison is a tiny remmant of what was Washington Street, although everything there is relitively new.

  2. I know cities are evolving organisms. And it is folly to lament a city’s present because it seems so much less than its past.
But it’s difficult to look at these shots and not think about the bustling industry — small producers that gave the city its tremendous vitality — that once thrived there. Just as they have in other urban centers throughout the nation, such enterprises have vanished. It’s impossible to look at all these pictures and not think about the loss of that vibrant city.
