Seen & Heard: Is Puffy’s Moving?

••• The next Tribeca Meet & Greet, organized by the BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center for neighborhood businesses (and anyone else who wants to mingle), will be August 18 at Dash Gallery from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. The wine is courtesy Frankly Wines.

••• The word on the street is that the building housing Puffy’s Tavern has been sold to a woman representing an investor group that owns properties in midtown and Dubai. The rent is being raised to the point that Puffy’s is likely to move. I placed a call to Puffy’s to confirm, but haven’t heard back.

••• What’s up with the old Chanterelle space? The “for rent” sign has come down and work is being done….

••• On Sunday nights, the Tribeca Grand is hosting “Mad Men” screenings. Patrons are encouraged to dress in period clothing, and there’s a $22 prix fixe menu.

••• Have you done anything good lately? Well, here’s your chance: “Trinity Wall Street is helping some of New York’s most underprivileged children get ready to begin classes with their ‘Build-A-Backpack’ initiative. This summer-long donation and collection effort seeks contributions of school supplies and backpacks that will go to low-income and homeless students who attend P.S. 140 in Lower Manhattan and P.S. 315 in Brooklyn, as well as children of incarcerated parents who are being served through the Children of Promise program. Trinity is seeking donations through August 20. Donations can be dropped off at Trinity Church, St. Paul’s Chapel or in the lobby or 21st floor of 74 Trinity Place.  Donations can also be made online through Amazon.com at trinitywallstreet.org/backpacks.”

••• From the LMCCC: “The Chambers Street Reconstruction project begins August 9.” (That’s tomorrow.) “Crews from contractor Judlau will begin with mass excavation on the south side between West Street and West Broadway. To accommodate the extensive work, Chambers Street will be reduced to one-way westbound traffic between West and W. Broadway. That traffic change will reroute eastbound M22 buses to Warren Street. Regular traffic will be redirected to either Murray or Canal Street.”

  1. NOOOO!!! Oh this one is really really depressing. Especially given the nice reprieve it got a few years ago. It can move, but it can’t “move”! That space IS Puffy’s, can’t recreate that, it’s the real deal!

  2. Guys:

After clicking on the “Volunteering” link on your home page, I landed here to see the lead piece, above with the date 8/08/10 All the stories referenced thereafter are from August.

What gives? I’m a fan of TC, but this is sloppy.

    Really sloppy.
