Gym Dandy

I must have walked by Tribeca Health & Fitness (on Chambers between Church and W. Broadway) a million times in the past seven years, and I had totally missed the fact that it’s no longer the dodgy place it used to be. Today, at manager Mike Sperber’s behest, I stopped by for a tour. The gym changed ownership a few years ago and has been completely redone. What you can never see, because most of the gym is below street level, is that the place is large and clean. There are two floors of cardio machines, Nautilus equipment, and free weights, as well as locker rooms, a massage space, a boxing area, a tanning booth, and a cardio studio. For $59 a month—plus $149 down, or $79 with no down payment, and no commitment either way—it’s pretty sweet deal. (And props to them for being upfront about rates, unlike some gyms.)

Tribeca Health & Fitness offers all sorts of classes, such as Zumba, karate, and more. And, as Sperber  points out, “We allow non-members to come and take classes and use the club the same day for less than the daily fee.”

  1. Tribeca Health & Fitness is a really good place to work out. Clean. Friendly. Affordable. Not crowded. Plenty of machines.

  2. I have been a member for going on two years. Great gym, amazing trainers. I highly recommend training with Allison and boxing with Kevin.
