In the News: Balloon Commute

••• “A commercial for the coming-soon rental tower [Beekman Tower a.k.a. 8 Spruce Street a.k.a. New York by Gehry] has been rolling before flicks at the Regal Union Square movie theater, a shorter version of the video seen on the building’s new website.” Someone recently said it a comment somewhere (Curbed, most likely) that the building is one of the few that people stop and take photos of, which is so true. But every time I imagine having all those little ledges outside my windows, two things come to mind: pigeons and grime. (Curbed, which has the video)

••• Restaurateur Pino Luongo attacked Locanda Verde’s Andrew Carmellini, so Carmellini fired back. Back in the kitchen, both of you! I’m feeling extra opinionated today. (Eater)

••• Gothamist got access to 5 Beekman, which I thought we were calling Temple Court? Funny comment: “5 Beekman is a lot like your sister, everyone’s been inside and posted pictures on a blog.” You must be thinking of my mother…? (Mom, if you’re reading this, that was a joke!!!)

••• A Balloon Saloon bouquet made it to the front page of the New York Times (the Fred R. Conrad photo, above, is number 9 in the slideshow).

••• “All indications are that the marketing team for 1 World Trade Center will have nearly 600,000 square feet more to offer prospective tenants—a rare instance of what’s usually bad news for a landlord being good news. Sources familiar with the Port Authority’s fast-rising tower said the likelihood of the state Offices of General Services going through with a long-discussed lease there are increasingly remote.” (New York Post)

••• More on the building planned for 180 Broadway (at John), which will be home to a Pace dorm. Looks like it belongs near Penn Station…. (Crain’s)

••• Out of the Ashes: 9/11 is a new documentary about how seven families were affected by 9/11. (Broadsheet Daily)

••• New York Journal on Stuzzicheria’s Feast of the Seven Fishes.
