UPDATE: Congratulations to T H Wood, who got it right—and narrowly avoided a “gotcha!” from Smithers. As for what it is, I believe it serves—or used to serve—some sort of security-related purpose, along with its partner to the south. (I probably should’ve included it in my recent round-up of “Sidewalk Things.”) We’ll be playing again on Friday at 8 a.m.

    Why, that’s on Trimble Place between Church and Thomas, behind the New York State Insurance Fund building! But, WHAT is it?!
