Firehouse Rally

Just a reminder that there will be a rally tomorrow (Friday) at 10 a.m. at the Ladder No. 8 firehouse at N. Moore and Varick. You might want to stop by today and pick up a Ladder No. 8 T-shirt (they also make excellent gifts….).

Here’s the alert that Council member Margaret Chin’s office sent out:

Who: Council member Margaret Chin, Community Board 1 Chair Julie Menin, Uniformed Firefighters Association President Steve Cassidy, Uniformed Firefighters Officers Association Treasurer Edward Boles, IPN Tenant President Diane Lapson, lower Manhattan residents, community advocates, and New York’s Bravest.

What: Rally outside the famous ‘Ghostbusters’ firehouse.

Where: Ladder 8, 14 N. Moore St. at the corner of Varick St.

When: Friday, June 24 at 10 a.m.

Why: Mayor Bloomberg’s FY12 Executive Budget calls for closing 20 fire companies, including two in District-1, Ladder 8 in Tribeca and Engine 4 (Ladder 15) in the Financial District. Ladder 8 has served Tribeca for 100 years and has responded to major incidents such as the World Trade Center bombings, September 11th Attacks, Deutsche Bank fire, and 283-5 Grand Street fire.
