••• The Wall Street Journal got a tour of the 9/11 memorial, with architect Michael Arad: “The massive pools, each stretching about a full acre, dominate the site. As you step closer and peer into the void, cascading water mutes even the hammering, blaring and booms of the construction site. ‘People are going to remember that sound,’ [said Paula Berry, a 9/11 family member on the jury that determined what the memorial would be like].”

••• “Visitor passes to the new 9/11 Memorial are selling fast. Just a few hours after the memorial launched its online reservation system Monday morning, all the tickets for Sept. 12, the first day the memorial is open to the public, were already gone. About half the the slots on Sept. 13 were sold out by 11 a.m. Monday, as were many of the slots on Sept. 17 and 18, the first weekend the memorial is open.” (DNAinfo) My take on the pass-reserving process is here.

••• “A controversial tire swing that injured several children last summer is on its way back to Battery Park City. The state plans to reinstall the swing in West Thames Park within the next four to six weeks.” (DNAinfo)

••• “A Manhattan judge has dismissed a lawsuit by a former New York City firefighter who is trying to stop the construction of an Islamic community center in Lower Manhattan.” (New York Times)

••• Manhattan Loft Guy on some Park Avenue types who bought on N. Moore.

  1. WINS News radio started a series related to the memorial this morning that sounded an awful lot like a countdown to the opening.

Quite frankly, the whole event is beginning to feel like an imminent invasion.
