••• The new Starbucks at W. Broadway and Leonard opened this morning. There had been talk that the mold was being broken, but it’s the same old Starbucks, if with a few updates here and there (it’s way nicer than the one five blocks south at Chambers). The staff was beyond friendly; they were excited about having a Clover machine.
••• Also open: Sushein, the kosher conveyor-belt sushi restaurant at 325 Broadway (at Worth). More to come…
••• I learned that the new Italian restaurant and pizzeria coming to 61 Reade (next to Maxwell’s) will be called Tre Sorelle. No word yet on when it’ll open.
••• Oops: Hidden Treasures, the discount store on Warren, hasn’t closed.
••• From Friends of Hudson River Park: “Join us for Friends of Hudson River Park’s 2011 Fall Fling on Tuesday, Sept. 20, from 6-9 pm. Usher in the fall in Hudson River Park with seafood, barbecue, and music on the Frying Pan (at Hudson River Park’s Pier 66a). Tickets on sale now.“

OK, I know it’s new and I’m prejudiced because of personal background, but the web site for Sushein (the name!) screams bogus at the top of its lungs. Look!

Welcome to another block!
I’m really happy when I hear of ventures like this. It isn’t just for the sake of corporate profit, but to help those that really do need support and a helping hand. I hope this business keeps opening more stores to help the world and create more jobs.

Woopsie, I just totally spaced for a second. My bad, i forgot, we’re supposed to hate the ever-expanding Starbucks Universe. Yeah, yeah, I remember now. Bad Starbucks! Bad Starbucks! With all of your benefits and stuff. Ugh. Disgusting. Don’t go getting too big for your coffee beans, Laughing Man, or the masses will turn as quickly as a MacClaren stroller on the sidewalk. Woopsie again, strollers apparently don’t turn, they just go straight….into everyone else walking on the sidewalk. Obvious design glitch, not human error. Where’s CB1 when you need them?
