Seen & Heard: Super Linda

••• A little bird tells me that Super Linda is having a party on Monday night, and it’ll open soon after. Reminder! All invitations may be sent to tribecacitizen@gmail.com. I’ll even shave!

••• Anecdote #1: Adam and I were walking up Church the other night, on our way to Ristorante Aglio, when a car pulled up next to us. “Guys! Guys!” yelled one of two young woman inside the car. We stopped, expecting to be asked how to get to the Holland Tunnel, or Greenwich Village, or Brooklyn. “Do you want a massage?” We laughed so hard. (Adam still doesn’t think she was a prostitute.)

••• Anecdote #2: I was a little surprised when the customer ahead of me in the Whole Foods check-out line asked if she was going to get 10 cents off for using her own bag—I’m not sure I’d go that far for a dime, but to each her own. What surprised me more the cashier’s response: “Are you using your purse or a reusable bag?” Does it matter? Isn’t the point that you’re not using one of the store’s paper bags? And isn’t the purse by definition reusable? In fact, one could argue that using a bag you already own—versus one you’ve bought for the purpose—is even more eco-considerate.

••• A reader asks: “Could you research and list the places in the Tribeca community that are having coat drives this winter?” That depends on what you mean by “research.” Anyone out there know of one? Shoofly did one last year, but I haven’t heard about it this year (I just sent Roz an email asking). I thought the Downtown Community Center was doing one, but it’s a holiday clothing and toy drive for new, unwrapped stuff. I’ll keep my ears open. In the meantime, you can always give to Housing Works. Personally, I no longer give to Salvation Army because the group is opposed to marriage equality.

••• I also hear that 225 W. Broadway (left) has been rented—but not to whom. If you know anything, spill it.

••• The Tribeca Greenmarket just announced that it’ll be open Saturday and Wednesday throughout the winter—as reported here back in October.

  1. Super Linda is such an interesting name.

  2. Janovic on Spring and 6th participates in e coat drive every year. Not TriBeCa, but close.

  3. Just walked by the 1st Precinct police station (Beach & Varick) and they are doing a coat drive. Drop off right inside.

  4. got the ‘massage offer’ as well thrs night, Erik, and it wasn’t the first time. those same ‘girls’ (small, grey Honda, PA plates) first struck back in March on Greenwich where they even handed me a business card (…very professional)….before i could realize what was actually happening. they mustn’t have noticed the number of “day spa’s” that have opened in the ‘hood…..

  5. By any chance, do you know if the fine folks collecting compost will be continuing to operate through the winter at the Saturday Greenmarket? It would be a shame to lose them.
Neighbors – TriBeCa has not been a big contributor – GO GREEN consider urban composting. Drop off is at the north end of the Saturday Greenmarket.
