Anyone Want to Buy 172 Duane?

Real estate company Quinlan Group tweeted that 172 Duane, a.k.a. the former studio/gallery of Damon Dash, is on the market for $12 million. I wondered if it always had been, but back in September, when word came of an event planner using the space, the landlord was said to be undecided about whether to unload the building. Either way, I thought you might find interesting a proposed way to develop atop the building. From the listing: “Development adds a 4-story residence (Approx 7,750 sq/ft of additional air rights).  above the commercial building completed independently 15 years earlier. Inspired by the existing cast iron screen below, the new three-story screen wall creates an open-air ‘winter garden’ constructed of clear glass panels supported by a custom cast-bronze truss system 40 feet above the street. […] A glass elevator travels between the front screen walls and their background facades […].”

UPDATE: Note C Paris’s comment.

UPDATE #2: The owner evidently does not want to advertise the property at this time, so you may be out of luck.

P.S. My iPhone photo at top makes 1WTC look like a water tower.

  1. Your post reminded me of this which I read back in September… I’d be interested to know how the plans changed.

  2. I’d’ve delighted to buy it and scale back the design. Anyone have a high value winning lottery ticket for me to buy first?
