Seen & Heard: Know Any Good Tribeca Charities?

••• The annual JCP pop-up shop will be May 13–25. They’re accepting donations of women’s and children’s clothing; you can also sell on consignment.

••• Interesting question from lawyer Daniel Gershburg: “Was wondering if you could point me in the direction of any local charities.  Wanted to use proceeds from my business to donate but literally can’t find anything online. Many thanks for your help.” My first thought was ACE, but I’m sure there are others. Feel free to suggest some in the comments.

••• Peter Koval, whose sketches of Tribeca are here and here, is now selling prints.

••• From the Port Authority: “In order to provide additional skid resistance to the Holland Tunnel roadway, a project was developed to hire a contractor to re-texture the roadways in both tubes.” Is anyone ever moving fast enough to skid? “During this process, steel balls are ‘fired’ from a truck at the roadway causing the surface of the pavement to break and shatter creating a new texture thereby increasing the skid resistance of the roadways. The machinery used to perform this task reclaims the steels balls and any residue.  However, because the equipment needed to conduct this work is wider then our roadway widths, we will be required to have 2 full closures of the North and South tubes. PANYNJ Engineering estimates that we will need at least 2 full weekend closures to complete the work.” That’s April 14–15 and 21–22, from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m.

••• I added more photos of flowering trees (and got this nice one from Tommy Flynn). Click that link for a burst of happiness.

  8. The Friends of Duane Park is lovingly tending that venerable if tiny corner of New York, and these are the weeks to walk through it and see if your dollars are well spent. Plus the Bogardus Triangle / Plaza board is doing wonders with its recapture of the end of Hudson Street and will need all our support as they work to make it permanent.

  9. what about http://www.friendsofbethannyfrankel.com? seriously, erik, why aren’t you covering the new paris hilton of tribeca? she has a stroller and everything, but you still seem to ignore her….why? she is so interestingly not interesting.
