A Tribeca institution for nearly 30 years, Bubby’s started out when Ron Silver—who had been baking pies surreptitiously—decided to serve Thanksgiving dinner to friends and neighbors; it was such a success that Bubby’s simply stayed open. From families to celebs to old-guard artists, the restaurant has remained a go-to, down-home spot even as the neighborhood has gentrified around it (to wit, you can get Botoxed next door). The food is as accessible as it has always been—fried chicken, meatloaf, etc.—but in recent years Silver has embraced local sourcing and non-industrial farms with an impressive zeal. Brunch is a veritable scene, drawing uptowners as much as (if not more than) locals.
