MD HYPERBARIC OPENS ON CHAMBERS
MD Hyperbaric, which provides hyperbaric oxygen therapy at locations around the East Coast (there is one on First and 71st) has taken one of the spaces at 157 Chambers, next to Cricket’s Candy Creations. They are scheduled to open Manhasset, Staten Island and Park Slope soon. The therapy is used for traumatic brain injuries and post-surgical recovery to long COVID and chronic illnesses. It’s a painless, non-invasive medical therapy that enhances the body’s natural healing process by breathing in 100% oxygen in a pressurized medical-grade hard chamber. More TK when I visit.
BUBBY’S WILL GET AN ART GALLERY
Bubby’s owner Ron Silver, who is also a practicing artist (that’s him in his studio in 2019), will open a dedicated gallery space on the bar side of the resatuarnt starting June 12, with a show of his paintings from a new series titled “Beauty and the Wild: Dandelions, Rodeos and Muses.” Silver had his gallery debut at Mriya Gallery on Reade and a solo show titled “Conversations on Muses” in Barcelona. In the meantime, see some of his work and his published books here.
FAMILY WEEKENDS AT THE SEAPORT
South Street Seaport Museum will host free Family Activity Weekends throughout the summer, and for June the activity is cyanotype printing from 11a to 4:30p, on the cobblestone street in front of 207 Water. Inspired by the museum’s collections of glass plate negatives, families can learn about the history of photography and create cyanotype masterpieces using specially treated paper infused with light-sensitive chemicals.
RIVER TO RIVER WILL RUN ALL SUMMER
The annual River To River arts festival will start on May 31 with an installation on Governors Island and run through Oct. 26 with events all over Downtown. On May 31, join artist Greg Corbino for a marine puppet-making workshop and view artwork inspired by Hudson River fishes like the sturgeon, eel and striped bass. This artwork will be used to celebrate these magnificent creatures on a flotilla of art boats. The 2025 River To River Festival, headlined by decorated artist Taylor Mac, will focus on climate change, collective resilience, and creative vibrancy in the face of crisis.
