In the News: Pressed Sandwiches

••• Downtown Lunch likes the pressed sandwiches at the new Blue Spoon Coffee Co. in FiDi (at William and Platt). I’m embarrassed to admit I’ve never tried them even though I live around the corner from the one on Chamber. It’s officially on the list.

••• “Having introduced modern design shops to Brooklyn, the meatpacking district and, more recently, Tribeca, John Erik Karkula has found a new frontier. Last week, the owner of the contemporary furniture store Karkula on Walker Street opened Tree & Three in upstate Callicoon, N.Y.” —New York Times

••• “Gateway resident Steve Dougherty has co-written a true-life Mafia memoir with Sal Polisi, a former Colombo family wiseguy who ran gambling rackets in Queens for a decade, before he flipped and began wearing a wire for federal prosecutors.” It’s titled The Sinatra Club: My Life Inside the New York Mafia. —Broadsheet

••• From a letter in the Broadsheet: “As of July 23 the BPCA has unleashed an offensive mission on residents, taxicabs, and any other unfortunates wishing to drop off groceries, or pick up or drop off  passengers, in the cul de sac on South End Avenue.”

••• “Shaun Hergatt sent out an official letter announcing his departure last Friday. The chef is going to open another version of Sho in a new neighborhood, perhaps Midtown.” —Eater

  1. Too bad Blue Spoon on Chambers is closed on the weekends. They have great sandwiches and soups.
