Seen & Heard: Has Silver Lining Closed?

••• Congratulations to Kurt Gutenbrunner for becoming a U.S. citizen. If I were in front of that background, I’d totally be tempted to do the Tootsie march.

••• Is the cocktails-and-jazz bar Silver Lining closed? “Windows papered up & For Sale signs showing when I went along tonight,” tweeted Steven Medcraft. “Shame if true.” A total shame! I emailed the proprietors, but they’ve never been the most communicative folks. I’ll add any updates here. And I’m not in town today, so I can’t go sniff it out. If anyone walks by the façade today, please send it over to tribecacitizen@gmail.com. UPDATE: The plot thicken. “A friend of mine is a bartender there,” emailed a reader. I attempted to surprise him last night but to my surprise it was closed. I didn’t notice any signs [or] paper on the doors.” UPDATE: Silver Lining’s Vito Dieterle says it’s still open.

••• M.M. Devoe, meanwhile, tweets that Baked by Melissa has opened on Fulton.

••• Classified ad: “Two stereo speakers that recall the days of disco. Free but you must pick up. Size 16″ deep, 20.5″ wide, 48” high (photo attached). No brand, probably homemade by a sound geek. On board Lilac at Hudson River Park’s Pier 25. Contact Mary at 917-709-5291 or mary@lilacpreservationproject.org.” Note: Anyone living directly adjacent to me is not eligible.

  1. Noooooooo!!!! Say it isn’t so. I love Silver Lining. Free jazz nightly and excellent cocktails are a good thing. Most of the nights I have been it has not been very crowded, but I was hoping that I just had bad(or good) timing.

  2. I was literally there 3 nights ago (8/23) and it was packed. I really don’t think it’s closed but in this town you never know.
