••• Rough news from Manhattan Youth: “Hurricane Sandy has hit us hard, flooding our Downtown Community Center with 20 feet of water, and causing millions of dollars of damage to our facilities. But Manhattan Youth is ready to rebuild. The Downtown Community Center and all Manhattan Youth programs are closed today. When our schools open, we will be there to provide after-school programs as usual. Classes that take place at the Center after school will be relocated to the school sites. We will also begin our evening and weekend basketball and sports programs once the schools are in operation. We will continue to update you as more information becomes available. Right now, we need to pump 20 feet of water out of our community center. If you know anyone who can help with resources or services, please do not hesitate to contact us.”
••• Aamanns/Copenhagen says it won’t be opening this week after all, thanks to Sandy. More when we know it….
And these are from pre-Sandy:
••• Loren reports that Tribeca got a shout-out on “Boardwalk Empire” the other night: “In a scene with Rosetti, they mentioned Hubert Street, Laight Street and ‘the cathouse on N. Moore.'” Reminds me of when they dressed up Cortlandt Alley.
••• Details just came in on a Matt Bernson sample sale: “Thursday, November 8 – Sunday, November 11. 11:00 am – 7:00 pm daily. 302 Bowery (btwn Bleecker and Houston). Flats, wedges, heels, boots and more up to 70% off! Cash only.” UPDATE: It’s been moved to Nov. 15-18. Other info all the same.
••• Two different (I think) readers requested it, so I brought back the “Jay-Z is my neighbor” T-shirt—except the shirt company objected to the proper name, so I had to make a change…. It’s only available in men’s American Apparel shirt, but I can do a women’s or kid’s shirt if anyone wants.
