“We’re moving to Williamsburg” says the email that Karkula, the chic home furnishings store at 48 Walker, sent out this morning—but when I walked by and peeked in (right), it was clear the shop had at least one foot out the door. The store, which had been in Tribeca for close to five years, is the latest in a long line of home stores to have tried the neighborhood, then left for elsewhere. Just last fall, it spun off its eastern half.
From the email: “The new showroom [at 98 S. 4th Street (bet. Bedford and Berry)] is located right off the Williamsburg bridge (near Peter Luger Steakhouse). The exposed steel frame, former garage space with rooftop garden is the perfect environment for the Karkula collection. […] For those of you who are train averse or who have never been to the great borough of Brooklyn, let us know and we will arrange for your transport to our showroom (LA not included).” The rendering of the new space (below) looks very Tribeca-y! They didn’t know what might be taking the old space; if you do, I’m at tribecacitizen@gmail.com.
P.S. I meant to mention the new Karkula is set to open Monday.
