92YTribeca Is Closing

Gallery_People1_HRes_2CRSay it ain’t so! From the New York Times: “The 92nd Street Y will leave its space at 200 Hudson Street, known as 92YTribeca, because “a second, physical location is not critical to our mission,” according to a letter sent Thursday afternoon to the workers at both sites. The decision was made by the 92nd Street Y board Wednesday night. The 92nd Street Y expects to be out of the Hudson Street space sometime this summer, according to the letter signed by Sol Adler, the Y’s executive director.”

What a disappointment. My best to everyone who works there on what has to be a crappy day.

  1. What a sad thing to close this absolutely essential meeting/gathering/teaching/learning place where I have reaped the benefits of classes for the past 3+ years! What are they thinking??????????

  2. This is a huge loss for the neighborhood. Will especially miss the concerts.

  3. This is really crappy! I hope all of the staff can find jobs! I have attended so many great panels, comedy shows, cooking classes and of course the Iron Mule Short Film Festival.

No more Shabbat dinners? No more classes?

  4. OH no.. I love teaching ikebana flower arranging there and this is the first I heard.
I need a new space for ikebana class! help! Just once a week or twice a month would be fine. :)

  5. @Debbie: Maybe Space on White or Asphalt Green BPC?

  6. 92YTribeca will be truly missed. One would also think that the 92Y would have given some thought to whether opening a second, physical location is critical to its mission prior to actually doing so.
