Two days ago, someone asked me how long I thought Tribeca Canvas would last. I didn’t think it was so at risk—and if so, wouldn’t Masaharu Morimoto just start serving sushi? I was wrong on the first count: The New York Times is reporting that the restaurant is closing. Sushi may yet be on the menu, however, as he’ll reopen it as Canvas with “Patrick Fahey of the Macao Trading Co. and Emmanuelle LaSalle Hill and Tommy Hill, partners at Los Americanos in Chelsea.” (Macao Trading Co. and Los Americanos are actually on the same block as Tribeca Canvas.) That the space will be redesigned could probably go without saying….
