••• CORRECTION! The creperie coming to 78 Chambers is By Suzette, not Chelsea Market’s Bar Suzette. I couldn’t find any other By Suzettes online, so I guess it’s the first.
••• Yesterday, I was walking along N. Moore when I noticed a man telling a couple about a bag of brown, gunky fluid hanging on the lamppost just past Walker’s. I missed the explanation, so I asked him, and he said it was something to do with mosquitoes (in February?) and that “they” (the city?) had been doing it for a year now. Anyone know anything? The bag is even fouler-looking in real life.
••• Here’s a tip for last week’s Where in Tribeca…?: Whether the taxi sign is actually in Tribeca depends on whether you’re the developer of the nearby buildings….
••• Saw someone inside the long-empty retail space in 88 Leonard, on Leonard next to Prime Essentials…. Could it have finally been rented? UPDATE: See Lara’s comment that the rumor is it’ll be a blowout salon, à la Drybar.
••• The conversion underway at 28-30 N. Moore has a drawing posted of what the façade will look like—notable only, I think, for the street-level and the rooftop addition (which we can assume is set back); “before” pix are available here. And maybe I’m the only one who got a kick out of the contractor’s name….

Always been mosquitoes around here; it’s the NJ state bird. BUT: I’ve lived & worked in tribeca/lower Manh for 16 years, & *never* have there been as many mosquitoes as there have been since they built a reflecting pool at the WTC. I doubt they spray it. Mosquitoes breed in standing pools of water. Maybe someone’s checking to see if the influx is real as I think it is …
Re: 88 Leonard Street retail space – rumour is a rival to DryBar..
I heard it’s a hair salon – but if it’s a rival to Dry Bar that would be amazing because I can never get an appointment at Dry Bar. Hopefully the salon will offer nail services because the walk to a decent nail salon in the neighborhood is getting real old.
What a Boore ;)
