The building at the northeast corner of W. Broadway and Worth, 173 W. Broadway, has been getting a facelift for a while now. (It’s the building where Boomerang Toys used to be, if that helps.) I wondered aloud a while back about the cladding on the second floor, but I think that was an underlying layer, because the other day, I noticed it’s gray stone—and it looks like the finished product. I don’t know if I ever poked around online for a rendering, but often when a project is this far along, they start to show up. The Department of Buildings website included filings by TRA Architects, located on Franklin, and lo and behold, the firm’s website has a rendering for what it’s calling Tribeca TownLofts.
As you can see below, the building will have not just a contemporary storefront, but also a very interesting window on the top floor. From TRA’s website: “The striking corner atelier oriel, which recognizes that a view is the ultimate New York luxury, takes full advantage of the fact that the structure is curiously not landmarked, gives character and presence to the corner building and adds balance to the somewhat “too tall” proportions….”
