You Know What This Neighborhood Needs More of?

I’m out of town so I can’t go verify it with my own eyes—and I hope I’m getting punked (the reader swears not!)—but I hear that the long-vacant 64 N. Moore, home to several pop-ups over the years, is now a nail salon. “Looks on the fancier side (TenOverTen style),” said the reader. “I thought we had reached full saturation on this front, apparently not!”

Indeed! I may have to update the Handy-Dandy Tribeca Nail Salon Map. Hey, the Handy Dandy is sort of a great name for a nail salon….

If anyone catches the name, please let me know. UPDATE: Thanks to Andrea for this comment: “It is indeed an off-shoot of iPlaza called Plaza M. The menu of services is similar and so are the prices but the decor is upscale and organic products are available. As well, there is a tantalizing array of spa pedicures with names like ‘Bourbon Super Scrub’ and ‘Sweet Retreat.’ The lower level also offers privacy for massages, etc.”

  1. urgh! What is it with this city and nail salons……..

  2. You’d think with all the competition that prices would ultra-cheap but they aren’t. Only possible explanation is that business is good and they must be making money. I guess as a guy I just have no idea how they are able to get so much business.

  3. Trust me, service businesses like dry cleaners and nail salons are way less expensive in New York than they are in other cities. The economy of scale is at work here.

  4. I think the new salon is related to iplaza.

  5. Here’s the scoop: It is indeed an off-shoot of iPlaza called Plaza M. The menu of services is similar and so are the prices but the decor is upscale and organic products are available. As well, there is a tantalizing array of spa pedicures with names like “Bourbon Super Scrub” and “Sweet Retreat”. The lower level also offers privacy for massages etc.
