August 28, 2014 Restaurant/Bar News
Posted on the door of the 66 Leonard storefront (where Matsugen was) is an eviction notice from the New York City Civil Court, stating that $116,852.93 is owed.
This is the space where a big Russian-backed “American brasserie” with affiliated cafĂ© was in the works. It was first announced in September 2012, and as recently as January 2014, the plans were still said to be on. I reached out to a representative, so maybe we’ll get an explanation.
It’s a ripe spot, or it will be once 56 Leonard across the street is completed. Too bad Richard Meier’s sleek interior (originally for the restaurant called 66) was demolished before the money dried up.
